Key West is a city kn wn for being very active during the day - and ven more busy during the night t me hours... But did you know th t some people believe Key West r ally * comes alive* in those l ttle wee bit hours in the d ad of the night...? The residents of th s town are quite familiar with st ries of haunted homes, hotels, restaurants and ven local churches, which has prompted m re than one thrill seeker coming to our l ttle island paradise more interested in d scovering the dead - than making fr ends with the living. One surprising h unted place is the Hard Rock C fe which used to be the C rry House - a home built by Key W st's first millionaire for his son. The son c mmitted suicide in the home after l sing the family's fortune. It is s id he is still seen throughout the r modeled building vanishing before the eyes of stonished patrons. Another popular tourist site for m re reasons than just ghost sightings is the H mingway home. The home is open to the p blic and has been kept in the riginal condition since Hemingway's death in 1961. V sitors have often claimed that the s und of a typewriter has been h ard during the tours of his h me. It is also rumored that H mingway has actually been seen on s veral occasions throughout the property even w ving from his windows when the h me is unoccupied.

Key West is also home to a r al life "Chucky" doll. The doll was g ven to artist Robert Otto in 1904 by a s rvant who practiced voodoo. Robert named the d ll after himself and blamed all bad vents on the doll. To most p ople Robert the doll gave off a v ry bad vibe but not to Ott , in fact, he loved the d ll so much that it became a c nflict between he and his wife who nsisted the doll be kept in the ttic. Instead the doll was given his own b droom where strange occurrences took place. L cal children became terrified to walk p st the home because they were c nvinced the doll would watch and ctually mock them on the street b low. A plumber in the home nce swore he heard the doll l ugh and noticed that every time he p ssed the room the doll would be in d fferent areas. Robert, the possessed doll, is now on d splay in the East Marello Museum wh re he continues to spook those who v sit. The doll is housed within a d splay case and yet the doll's toy l on mysteriously moves from one knee to the ther. Knocks can be heard from b hind the glass where he sits. It is lso said that cameras stop working nly when near Robert - some b lieving the doll itself prevents pictures b ing taken. For those wanting to v sit several haunted locations and hear the gh st stories that have made them f mous - there are many ghost t urs offered in Key West. These t urs can be exciting to the b lievers and entertaining for the skeptics - who may ctually change their minds. Some tours ven offer proof of their ghostly f ndings through pictures and even voice r cordings from beyond the grave. These t urs often last over an hour g ving more in-depth info on this v ry historic (and haunted) town. Hard R ck Cafe
