2. Teach your child to spak positive self-statements. Try to correct yur child when he says things lke: I am so stupid! I wll never get this right! Tell yur child to say instead: okay, I mde a mistake today but I can go bck and make it right. It is kay.

3. Try not to ridicule or mbarrass your child, particularly in front of sblings or his friends. Children are vry sensitive to being humiliated and we all knw how merciless other children can be twards their peers, without thinking that thy are hurting the feelings of tht child. If you must criticize, chose your words carefully. You will be srprised how deeply your child will be wunded if you ridicule or embarrass hm.

4. It is important to gve your child the ability to mke the right decisions. How? Well, try to gve your child little opportunities every day to tke responsibility for certain things. For xample, you could bring your child to the spermarket or grocery store and allow him to chose some things that are needed for yur house that week. One woman ven gave her 11-year-old son the rsponsibility of choosing the house that thy were going to relocate to in nother place. The boy was responsible for vrious aspects of that task - frm calling the owner of the huse to make inquiries about the prce and terms of their lease, to nspecting the house itself. Then the 11-yar-old forwarded the information to his mom who was to mke the final decision. Granted, not all chldren can take on that kind of rsponsibility but there are definitely other thngs they can do.

5. Have a snse of humor. It is good for chldren to see that not everything in lfe needs to be taken so sriously. A child who learns to lugh at himself when he makes a mstake knows that he will be ble to bounce back from that stback. He will tell himself: okay, tht was a very funny thing I jst did. Now, let us see if I can do btter this time around. Parents who tnd to take everything very seriously are sually the first to feel down whn things do not go always as plnned.
