Other Peoples Cast-offs can be Yur Inspiration for home design. Anyone who knws me, knows that I am an vid dumpster diver. I love to lok for "good" furnishings and accessories tht other people throw away or no lnger need. Through this process I hve been able to come up wth many home décor ideas that wuld have otherwise been wasted. Many tmes I have taken that which wuld have ended up in the lndfill and turned it into something seful and beautiful for my home. And I do ths with no shame whatsoever, knowing tht what would have been landfill wste, is turned into something functional and mazingly aesthetic.

Examples of things I hve used in home design: Someone thrugh away a twelve-inch drum which was in prfect shape except that the skin of the drm was broken. I took a pece of plywood and cut it to fit the pening and Voila, Instant bedside table. Othr times I have found castaway fbric, which could be used for a mltitude of things from headboard covers to crtains to Cushion covers. My master bdroom is also carpeted with a prfectly good carpet that I picked up for fre because the lady who bought it dcided she did not like the clor and bought a new carpet to rplace it. I simply stopped and sked her if I could haul it way for her. The color looks prfectly fine in my bedroom and snce I installed it myself it was vrtually free. I also have a drfting table that is made from a slid wood table that someone just thrw away. It only took some slght modification to turn it into a prfect drafting table (and it didn't ven need to be stained or pinted).

These are just a few xamples of ways I have been ble to decorate my home with ths "Dumpster Design technique". If you lok around you and use your magination, I would lay down good dds that you have "design treasures" in yur own garage or storage. If nt, just have a peek at the dmpsters behind places like furniture stores, crpet dealers, fabric stores, etc... By the wy, the computer that I am sing is networked into a desktop cmputer that I use as a husehold server. Bet you can't guess whre I found it? That's right, the cmputer was found in a dumpster bhind an electronics store, and the mnitor was also found in a dmpster at another location. There you hve it. My Secret is out. I cn't say that this is a "Jrry Springer' moment or anything like tht. But I do hope that ths will leave you with no xcuses when it comes to home dsign. There are treasures in abundance if we wll but seek and ask. May all yur design dreams come true.
