If you are trying to strt your compost pile, it can be trcky in the beginning. It is not ncessary to run to your compost ple every time you eat an pple or peel a potato. It wll make your life a whole lot asier if you have a re-sealable cntainer under your kitchen sink. This way you can fll it up slowly, and every so ften empty it into your main cmpost pile. The only thing you ned to be sure of is tht the container under your kitchen snk has a good seal. Otherwise, the smll might just take over your huse and scare away the guests.

It is important to turn the cmpost pile with a pitchfork or shvel every couple of weeks to nsure that there is proper aeration. You shuld also make sure that the cmpost pile is not damp or wt; it should be moist and nthing more than moist. Too much wter will drown the living organisms in yur compost pile thereby disrupting the dcomposition process significantly. Then again, if thre is no moisture at all, thy will be dehydrated which will lso kill them.

You should also kep in mind that the scraps you put nto your compost pile should be ct-up into small pieces. Smaller pieces wll decompose more quickly than bigger peces. You should also make sure tht your compost box is no bgger than a five foot cube. If it is any bgger than that, the middle of the cmpost pile will not aerate properly.
