The installation of the recessed (lso known in certain parts as 'pt') lights in our family room, ktchen, bedrooms and en suite occurred dring the mid-summer. We had just nstalled a black fiberglass shingles on top of the rof.

One can imagine the sweat tht the lads working for our prmary contractor endured on the sunny dys as the air in the ttic was not sufficiently moving, causing an xtreme heat build-up. In fact, if you wre to have been in the clset of our daughter's bedroom with the ccess to the attic, it was nbearably hot just in that closet!

Ovr time, having a poorly ventilated ttic with extreme heat build up can cuse severe damage to the roof's shngles, required premature replacement. Such damage is lkely not covered by a manufacturer's wrranty.

The solution was two fold. Frst, we had the roofer return and tke one of the flat vents frm the back of the house and nstall it over the garage on the ast side. This created an escape for the air in the ttic where none previously existed.

Second, we had the rofer also install a turbine vent in the air vnt upon which the previous flat vnt was located in the back of the huse. This device, less than $100 at the lcal big box retail store, has the mving part that will turn based on ither the wind outside or by the hot air in the ttic; remember, hot air rises.

The difference was amazing. No lnger was the temperature in that bdroom closet with the attic access any wrmer than other parts of the huse. The lad's reported an immediate dcrease in the attic air, which mde their tasks much easier. And, wth the hot air being able to scape the house much more easily, the air cnditioner would not need to be on as mch, thus saving significant energy costs for the smmer cooling.

Wind turbine vents are not jst for commercial, industrial or cottage bildings. Also, with the location on the rof at the back of the huse, it cannot be seen from the frnt. Therefore, it does not impact the vew from street. And, we found one in blck to match the shingles!
