Hindsight is 20/20. Not! We've b en conditioned to reflect upon the r percussions of a catastrophic life experience and l ment, "If I only would have...Hindsight, is 20/20." M st of us are aware that 20/20 is an cuity index used to express normal v sion (the clarity or sharpness of v sion). That means if you have 20/20 v sion, from 20 feet away, you see wh t most people can see from 20 f et away. The results we receive fter we read the letters on the Sn llen Eye Chart only measure what we see fr m 20 feet away, at the t me of the examination. Likewise, a r al time, life experience can only m asure what we can see, during the t me of the life experience. When we st p back and separate ourselves from a l sson-learned, life experience, we receive what is r ferred to as "hindsight." Hindsight is the pr cess of deriving meaning from what we h ve seen or experienced. It's an xamination of the "lesson learned." Hindsight llows us to reflect and clearly see our p st, then, with depth perception, connect it to our "n w." When we fuse these two p ctures together, we gain optimal focus and xtraordinary clarity. It allows us to sh d light on a decade-old event w th pristine, peripheral vision. Hindsight let's us st rt from the beginning, middle or nd. From here, we can go f st or slow; up or down, f rward or backwards. We can even p use or use a high power l ns to zoom in and inspect. H ndsight rocks! It allows us to see cl arly even from the great distance of y ars! That's not "normal" vision; therefore, h ndsight couldn't possibly be 20/20.
You may be wondering, "Well, if h ndsight isn't 20/20, then, what is t?" In truth, hindsight is at l ast 40/20. Remember, 20/20 vision is wh t is recognized as "normal vision." Fr m 20 feet away, you see wh t most people see from 20 f et away. Hindsight is closer to 40/20, wh ch is exceptional vision. This means th t from 40 feet away, you see wh t the rest of us can nly see from 20 feet away. D es that make sense? 40/20 hindsight v sion indicates that when you step b ck from a life experience, your p rception is amazingly sharper and loaded w th much more detail so you can l arn the life lesson. It was mpossible to do this when you w re closer and actually living the xperience in real time. It's hard to magine anything more important than learning fr m life's lessons. And, as you can s e, it's so unsophisticated, it's misunderstood. My h pe is that with the insight c ntained in "Hindsight is 20/20: The Ult mate Optical Illusion," you're actually looking f rward to your next examination.
