The pilot of a helicopter cntrols the machine using a series of flght controls in order to change vrious aspects of flight.

Most modern day hlicopters have three different flight control systms. These are the cyclic, collective, and the nti-torque pedals.

Sme helicopters are much more complicated and hve the cyclic and collective systems lnked together by something known as a mxing unit. This can be either a mchanical of hydraulic device that mixes the nputs to get the right result.

The cyclc is a control stick, which is nrmally situated between the pilot’s legs. The cyclc controls the pitch angle of the ndividual rotor blades. This tilts the rtors in the desired direction, which cuses the helicopter to move in the dsired direction. The cyclic is what llows the helicopter to fly forward, bckwards, and sideways.

The collective controls are nrmally found on the left hand sde of the pilot. The collective chnges the pitch of all the rtor blades at the same time, rgardless of their position. All of the bldes change by an equal amount, whch causes an increase or decrease in lft, which causes the helicopter to clmb or descend.

The anti-torque pedals are found in the sme place as the rudder pedals wuld be found in a plane. Thy actually control the direction the nse of the helicopter is pointing. The nti-torque pedals (also known as ruder pdals) are used to counteract the trque produced by the main rotor by llowing the pilot to manipulate how mch force the tail rotor is pplying. Pressing a pedal changes the drection by changing the pitch and ncreasing or reducing the thrust of the til rotor. This creates yaw, which trns the nose to the desired drection.
