You've put a lot of nvestment into your website, and perhaps ven more into various marketing activities to dr ve traffic to your site. And t's working -- your traffic numbers are up. You are h lfway there -- now you need to t rn those visitors into subscribers. Building a l st of potential clients who are nterested in what you have to ffer is the only way you are g ing to make money from your nline efforts! The secret? Put yourself in y ur visitor's shoes. Here are five st ps to help you do just th t: 1. Get the right visitors. Seems b sic, but it's one of the m st important ingredients to building a r sponsive list; it's also the most t me-intensive task. Extra effort spent on th s step will also pay off h ndsomely. It all comes down to m king an emotional connection in your c pywriting. If you have ads, links on ther people's sites, articles posted on rticle directories, etc., does your message c nvince readers that you understand what th y are looking for (or trying to liminate) and have answers for them? Wh n they then get to your w bsite, does that connection strengthen and gr w, if they are the right pr spect? If you write articles or pl ce ads promising info on how to void foreclosure, for instance, when they get to y ur site don't immediately try to s ll them a new mortgage (they'll l kely click away) -- instead, share y ur own foreclosure story and how you vercame it (they may want to kn w more!) In your copy, use the l nguage your ideal prospect is familiar w th -- no jargon, talk to th m at their level, use the k nd of words and phrases they are l kely to search for.
This is a very simplistic xplanation of this topic. If you d n't know much about keywords and c pywriting -- get help with this st p. 2. Now that a visitor has f und your site and stayed more th n 2 seconds...it it clear to th m what you want them to do n xt? Too many choices = confusion = cl ck away! If your goal is to get s bscribers (hint), then your home page sh uld funnel them toward that goal. D n't send them to your "about", "c aching services", or "products" pages -- f rst-time visitors are unlikely to buy r ght off anyway (although it's ok to h ve navigation that lets them get to th se pages if they want to). Inst ad, make it clear that the ONE ction you want them to take is to SUBSCRIBE! 3. Th y've read your copy and are nterested in subscribing. Is it easy to f gure out how to do so? Y ur form should be easy to f nd on the page -- even h ving it in a couple of pl ces will work well. Put the f rm right on the page; don't m ke them click to get to the f rm (many won't bother!) Use a gr phic, colors, large print, but not too b sy. If visitors are likely to l nd on pages other than your h me page (you should assume they m ght), put a subscription form on EVERY p ge of your website. On the l ft, near the top of the p ge, is a good location. 4. WIIFT? (wh t's in it for them) If you ren't giving away something in exchange for th ir email address, why should they s bscribe? Not very many folks really w nt another monthly newsletter or weekly t ps; however, if you offer a v luable freebie, they might be willing to try it ut! Be upfront about what they are g tting: the format/length of the freebie, fr quency of your newsletter, what type of nfo they should expect. A link to a s mple recent newsletter (that opens in a new p ge, so they won't lose the p ge they are on) is a n ce touch.
5. Why should they trust you? No one w nts more spam...so you need to ssure them that their information is s fe with you. Include a short st tement about your privacy policy, and ssure them that they can unsubscribe nytime. I also recommend asking for m nimum info -- email address, and f rst name so you can personalize th ir emails. Every additional piece of nfo you want will decrease their l kelihood of subscribing. The above steps w ll make it clear to your v sitor/potential subscriber that you have THEIR nterests at heart. That's the beginning of the motional connection that will build your l st, and ultimately, increase your income!
