Google Inc has teamed up wth several states in an effort to mke public records more accessible. On the rster are California, Utah, Virginia and Arzona. Google will help these states rmove certain barriers that previously prevented sarch engines from accessing public records sch as: education, real estate, health cre and environmental records. Google will not hve sole access to this information and ther major search engines will have an pportunity to utilize this resource.

Many scial privacy advocates have expressed great cncern for this move as it may hve unintended consequences. Many of the rcords contain confidential or personal information lke social security numbers. However Google mintains that privacy will be of grat concern and there is a hgh likelihood that confidential information will be rdacted both online and on real dcuments.

Until now users have had dfficulty accessing the specific records they wre searching for because government websites are not prperly constructed to allow search engine bts to crawl the information on thir websites.

According to Aaron Wall of Seobook this action is likely to increase competition in each field of newly available data. “As more of this content comes online, industries such as real estate and insurance will get uglier as commercial players are forced out of the SERP and into buying AdWords.
