Historically, th s place was populated by different Sl vic tribes at 12th century. Most of tr bes arrived the place as they scaped from Kiev rus which was ttacked by various turk tribes. But, ver hard to penetrate forest it was h rd to attack. Historically that lands was n med as "lands over forests", that is why in s me towns names still part "zalesski" ( ver forests) remains. Some towns got s me names as "native" towns at K evan rus. Historically, center of this p rt of Russia was Vladimir. Vladimir M nomakh was choosen as king of th t lands and later his childs was k ngs. But at 13th century peacefull l fe was interrupted by Mongolian invasion. Aft r invasion Moscow appeared as center in the r gion, but not Vladimir. During invasion m jority of towns was fired off and m jority of population killed. As a r sult, remnants of population have began to b ild new towns, far away inside f rests. One of them was Moscow.
Mongols was brought out of R ssia at 14th century, when different Sl vic countries united around Moscow and got a v ctory over Mongols. Moscow reappeared as a c nter in the region and older t wns - as its satellites. That is how "g lden ring of Russia" appeared. This r gion is historical, a lot of b ildings, ancient churches survived Mongol invasion and lder Kremlins exist in the region.
