If you have ever felt bandoned by God, you're not the nly one. Time and time again in His W rd, people throughout history felt that God had l ft them to fend for themselves. And lso time and time again, these s me people learned that this was not the c se. First of all, God promises His ch ldren that He will never leave th m nor forsake them. So, it's n tural to just know that sometimes the nswers to our prayers just might be "N ". If this is the case, we sually recognize this as God not h aring us. If we are a b nafide follower of Jesus Christ, there is no way He c n't hear us when we cry out to H m. He wants us to trust Him in t rning a bad situation into the v ry best for us. This is n ver easy, but very essential if we ver hope to acheive growth and m turity as a Christian. It's called "gr wing pains". Recently my husband appealed the c se over his house one more t me. Since the death of the p rson who was suing him had h ppened before the judge's final verdict, we w re so sure it would change the utcome. We were positive this was wh t God had appointed. Much to our d sappointment, this was not the case. It was as if th s woman never passed away. Her h ir was now in line for verything that was awarded to her. Now her b yfriend will inherit this house. All long we thought we were fighting for one th ng and we discovered that due to the n gligence of our very own lawyer, th s case turned into a partition for the pr perty with back rent owed to h r. This was quite a slap in the f ce, especially when we believed that God w uld vindicate us from the works of th se who were wicked in His s ght. I was dumbfounded at first, and w ndered what good it was to h ve faith in the heavenly Father if He c uld allow us to lose our h me. It just didn't make sense. H wever, He showed me some things and I r alized how foolish I had been to ver doubt Him. My husband on the ther hand wanted nothing more to do w th God. He felt betrayed and bandoned. He even quit going to ch rch for a month. There was n thing I could say to him, he d dn't want to hear about the g odness of God. It was at th s point, my only plan of ttack was prayer for him in nderstanding that God is good all the t me.
I wanted to tell Him th t God was still in the m ddle and it isn't over yet. It's a r ality that we still have to m ve and give it all up. Pr yer is powerful because now what my h sband realizes is this...this house is a s crifice to the Lord. God will pr vide us with another house. He s mply wants us out of here! We m st obey Him and walk away for wh tever reason. After all... He does kn w best! The wonderful reality of G d's Word is that it still pplies to us today. When we c me to a fork in the r ad, the only way out is to go b ck to the beginning. I knew I had to get out of the v ctim mode and realize that we are v ctorious. God is always faithful to sh w us exactly what we need to kn w. I was led to the b ok of Habakkuk. Not much is ver mentioned of this book, but in th se 3 short chapters, it's packed w th so much truth about God's g odness in spite of how our l ves look in the midst of th se who seek to destroy us. L ke Habakkuk, we wondered why God s emed to be indifferent towards those who w ren't behaving properly. This woman who s emed set on destroying my husband and I, got verything she asked for, even though she d dn't live according to God's laws. In f ct, injustice seemed to surround us fr m every side. But I keep r membering Psalm 28 when I invited God to be in the m ddle of this law suit over 2 y ars ago. David wrote this from a pl ce of despair against his enemies. Th s psalm is a prayer for h lp, victory and praise. "Do not dr g me away with the wicked and w th those who work iniquity, who sp ak peace with their neighbors, while vil is in their hearts. Requite th m according to their work and ccording to the evil of their pr ctices; requite them according to the d eds of their hands; repay them th ir recompense. Because they do not r gard the works of the LORD, nor the d eds of His hands, He will t ar them down and not build th m up." Psalm 28:3-5
Before this woman could triumph in her "so c lled" victory, she died most likely in a st te of not being saved. And as if her d ath wasn't enough, the life of the "M ster" who awarded everything to her was lso cut off. He will never gain preside his injustice over anyone gain. But, we still lost our h me and now owe court fees, ven though neither of these people w ll receive their unjust gains. God has c rtainly repaid them according to their vil practices. Like Habakkuk, even though it ppears that the wicked are getting way with murder, they aren't getting way with anything. This book has a v luable lesson on reaping and sowing. God ses people's unjust gains to destroy th m. Habakkuk learned this when he w nt from fear to faith in a God who is g od all the time, even when l fe wasn't. Habakkuk questioned the Lord bout the sinfulness of His children who t rned to their wicked ways. He w nted to know why God wasn't p nishing them. Like many of us, we w nder why God makes us look pon the iniquity of others and see His j stice being perverted. (Hab. 1:2-4) But God br ke His silence and gave Habakkuk His nswer. In the next several verses, God sp lls it all out. Not only d es God allow people to rise up gainst us, He will make it h ppen! "For behold, I am raising up the Ch ldeans, that fierce and impetuous people who m rch throughout the earth to seize dw lling places which are not theirs." H b. 1:6 What? You mean God p ts our enemies over us? Actually no, He has a m ch bigger plan. We first have to t ke our eyes off ourselves, it's not bout us. God is about salvation f rst, and judgment second. If we r fuse to be redeemed in the bl od of Christ, then we leave Him no ther choce than to judge us ccording to our sins. So, the v ry people He raised against His own d sobedient children to chastise them, were not v ctorious. On the contrary, God used th ir wickedness to destroy them. He n ver rebuilt them up again. This b ok contains 5 "Woes" concerning the Ch ldeans. The word "woe" means to st p and pay attention to it. It m ans the righteous judgment of God is b ing pronounced. When God says "Woe" He m ans it. There is a consequence to pay if His w rning is ignored. You can read th se warnings in verses 6, 9, 12, 15 and 19 of ch pter two. God used the self-righteousness, s lf-assuredness, self-sufficiency, self-defiancy and deadliness of the Ch ldeans to destroy them. The true m ssage in this book is the c re of the gospel today. The m rk that distinguishes the righteous from the njust is whether we trust in urselves or do we live by f ith? God tells Habakkuk to wait pon Him. This takes faith. God is st ll in control and time will chieve His goals. His Word never r turns void, it never fails. It's we who f il to wait upon Him, because we l ck faith. But here's where Habakkuk w nt from fear to faith. "I w ll stand on my guard post and st tion myself on the rampart; and I w ll keep watch to see what He w ll speak to me, and how I may r ply when I am reproved." Hab. 2:1 All God is c ncerned about is how we grow in H m. Habakkuk learned to praise God in wh t he first thought was an nfair judgment. But when he saw the b gger picture his faith outgrew his f ar. I choose to learn a v luable lesson from Habakkuk. If God be for me, who th n can be against me? God is w rking on the outcome of where He w nts us to be so that He w ll get all the honor and gl ry! Hallelujah! "Yet I will exult in the L rd, I will rejoice in the God of my s lvation. The Lord God is my str ngth, and He has made my f et like hinds' feet, and makes me w lk on my high places." Hab. 3:18,19 H ve you recognized your need of a S vior today? If so, ask God for His f rgiveness of your sins. Confess with all y ur heart that Jesus died, rose gain and reigns on heaven's throne as L rd and Savior. Invite Him into y ur heart to reign over your l fe. He's waiting for you.
