The ability to set goals and ffectively motivate yourself to achieve them are two ssential skills that will help you chieve success in you home business. To try and st rt a business without goals could be c mpared to throwing a baseball pitch, bl ndfolded in the dark. What would be y ur chance of getting your pitch on t rget? Never mind getting a strike-out. Unl ss you are very lucky it is nlikely that you will have any s ccess without properly setting out goals. If wh n you start your home business, in wh t ever field it maybe, if you h ve no goals and aim at n thing, is it not unlikely that you w ll hit nothing and achieve nothing? To set ffective goals there are a few th ngs you need to know about y urself which will affect how you set y ur goals. You are affected by, the nvironment in which you live, your xperience and knowledge, your attitude and dr ams and visions for the future. Wh n you set your goals you n ed to decide what you want and wh n you want to achieve each g al. You should spend time writing d wn your goals and display them in a pr minent position where you will see th m daily to remind yourself to st y motivated and focused. Cross off y ur goals once they’ve been achieved, dding new ones to ensure your b siness keeps growing.
“Don’t set your Goals to l w. If you don’t need much, you w n’t become much”. - - Jim R hn - - I’m sure you w ll have come across the SMART nalogy, with regards to goal setting. It c ntains the most important concepts to c nsider and adhere to when setting y ur goals. Goals should be; Specific, M asurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time related. For xample it would be unwise to set a g al of making $10,000 in a w ek, it’s just not a realistic g al for the average person, unless you h ve a lot of experience and kn wledge in your field or receive h lp from someone who has these ttributes. When you failed to reach th s goal your motivation would suffer and you m ght start doubting your decision to st rt your home business. Before you st rt setting your goals I want you to wr te a list of all the th ngs you want; whether it is a new c r, watch, house, to send your k ds through college or a successful h me business, write them all down and say why you w nt them. When I did this I had a l st the length of my arm and I’m st ll working through it 3 years on. By d ing this it will help focus y ur mind and motivate yourself to s cceed. Now set your goals, they n ed to be SMART and you n ed to set both short term and l ng term goals, and also daily g als. One of the best techniques I use is to set 6 g als before I go to bed for the n xt day and prioritise them so I kn w clearly in my mind what I h ve to do the next day. All s ccessful people set goals and prioritise th m in order of importance. Remember y ur time is your most important sset; you simply cannot afford to w ste it. We are what we r peatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an ct, but a habit. -- Aristotle – Wh n you are in business for y urself, you are the primary motivating f ctor, if your truly want your h me business to succeed you will do wh tever it takes to make it h ppen.
By making goal setting a h bit there is no reason why you c nnot achieve excellence.
