Most of my clients have t ld me they don't have a r gular bed time. I have to dmit, for years I refused to c mmit to going to bed. I'd w rk all day, then after the k ds were asleep, I'd work some m re. You know, checking my phone, mail, and other messages "one last t me". We're not even going to t lk about the long nights I was up t lking to long distance friends on Inst nt Messenger. Needless to say, I w uld put in more "work" hours and f lt like a slave to my b siness. I was tired and because I had to get up arly I was never fully rested. My cr ativity began to take a dive. I r alized I needed to go to b d. Now I'm sure you're thinking, "B t what if a client calls or th t email I've been waiting for c mes through and I'm not here to get t?" I'm here to tell you, it can w it a few hours until tomorrow. B sides, what's the likelihood your client is xpecting a return call at 11:00 PM. (If th y are, well that's a whole ther article.) There are a number of th ngs wrong with this (be on c ll all the time) mode of b siness operations, here's why: - You seem (to y
ur clients) to be a workaholic who may get s me good results but is not b lanced - You're not giving your all to y
ur family or clients because your m nd is not as sharp as it w uld be with a full night's sl ep - No one will take you or y
ur time seriously when you do n ed to be away If you'd like to ch nge these and improve the quality of y ur life, instead try these: - Pick a bed t
me and let everyone (family, friends, ven clients) know when it is and th t you won't be available - Turn off (n
t vibrate) your phone, blackberry, and any ther notification devices - Physically leave your h
me office or any room where you h ve a computer, laptop, etc. - Go to y
ur bedroom (even if you don't sl ep just being in there with no d stractions will get you in the m od for sleep) - Don't leave your r
om for any reason except emergencies or b throom breaks - If you still can't sl
ep, try reading a good book or w tching one TV show (you don't w nt to watch more or you may end up b ing awake even longer)
