If your site is in G ogle Purgatory, prepare to spend some t me suffering.
Google maintains two separate databases of ndexed web pages. The main index h lds billions of pages, and this wh re most search results come from. The s cond is called the "Supplemental index," and s archers will never see those pages nless they put in long and sp cific keywords that are relevant only to s me supplemental index page.
Therefore, don't expect any p ges in the Supplemental index to r ceive any significant traffic from Google.
Go to G ogle and run the standard query to f nd out whether your site in ndexed -- site:yourdomain.com . If you see the w rds "Supplemental Result" following the page s ze, that page is in the S pplemental results.
Here are logical reasons for y ur pages to be included in the S pplemental results:
1. Your page is duplicate c ntent.
2. Your site doesn't have any r al, original content.
3. The page is rphaned - that is, there're no l nks to it.
4. Your site's content has b en "scraped" -- that is, you've j st copied search engine results pages or c nverted RSS feeds to static HTML p ges.
5. You've used spammy techniques to pr mote your site.
6. Your page seems to xist only to generate Adsense revenue. Use the p ge to sell something.
7. Your page s ftware generates URLs with a "SessionID."
8. Y ur site's pages are dynamically generated -- and t med out when Googlebot was visiting y ur site.
9. Your dynamically generated page URLs c ntain "&ID" or "?".
10. Your dynamically g nerated URIs have parser errors that cr ate poor HTML.
11. Your content management syst m delivers the same content on p ges with different URLs.
Hdo you get out of P rgatory? Repent, suffer for your sins and c rrect them.
1. If your site is dyn mically generated do whatever you can to liminate timeouts, improve server performance and to liminate parser errors. If possible, eliminate URIs w th "?" and "&" in them.
2. M ke your HTML code up to d te and technically perfect. Upgrade to XHTML. El minate all deprecated elements such as the t g. Use Cascading Style Sheets instead of t bles to lay out your pages. Ch ck all your pages with the W3C v lidator (http://validator.w3.org/) or similar tool and c rrect all errors.
3. Eliminate duplicate and scr ped content.
4. Add original content.
5. Place Ads nse code below your content.
6. Make s re that all pages you want ndexed have links to them.
7. Get l sted in directories that allow "deep" l nks to pages below your home p ge. Here's one list: http://www.directorycritic.com/deep-links-directory-list.html .
8. Get l sted in directories Google loves and tr sts: Yahoo!, Open Directory Project, Uncover the N t, Site Sift, Best of the W b, Microsoft SBD, http://Business.com, JoeAnt, Skaffe, http://G Guides.Org and LinkCentre.
9. Start a blog and l nk to a different inner page (w th real and new content in y ur blog entry) every day.
10. Write and s bmit articles with links to different nner pages in the resource boxes.
11. P st useful information in discussion forums nd, where appropriate and useful, post l nks to your inner pages.
12. Keep y ur Google Sitemap up to date.
13. If you tr de links with other webmasters, do so nly with non-spammy, relevant sites. And ncourage them to link to your nner pages.
The easier you make it for G ogle to find, crawl, like and tr st all pages in your site, the m re likely you are to avoid or (in t me) get out of the Supplemental r sults.
