Those holiday dinners have left th ir mark…around my waist, hips and th ghs. The first flowers of spring t ll me that beach season is on the h rizon and I need to start pl nning. I break spring into two ph ses. The first phase begins with w rking on my diet. I need to cl an up my calories…which is a g od thing anytime of the year. So now is the t me to begin eliminating those indulgent d sserts, cookies at break time, and s da consumption. But I negotiate with mys lf. I create a list of the m st calorie dense items that are not g od for me…the cookies, sugary sodas, f ncy coffees that really pack a c loric punch. Then I reduce it to j st one a day. I can st ll have them….but in moderation. If I n ed a chocolate fix, I’ll give in, but s ve half that candy bar for t morrow. Suddenly, it’s a reward to get a tr at and they actually taste better! S cond phase: I gotta get th s body in gear. Taking a few fl ghts of stairs gives me time to th nk and I feel the steps t ghtening the gluts. At home I set the k tchen timer for 5 minutes of w lking. As I cruise, I pickup cl tter and put it away. Wow, now I’m g tting multiple benefits, I’m looking better and cl tter is vanquished! If I watch a sp rts show, I gotta set the xercise bike for 15 minutes while I ch er my team. I also use my MP3 pl yer with a downloaded routine so I’m m ving while I watch my show, gain double duty in a given t me period. I’ve got several workout deas to fit my spare time no m tter the weather!
