We have a long history h re in Germany and very medieval c stles also. Tens of thousands of t urists come to Germany day in and day out j st to see and feel the "ch risma" of our German castles. I w ll explain you 4 of my f vourites and a little bit of th ir history. If you plan to tr vel to Germany, you might like to kn w them and to feel its ch risma too. ;-) These 4 castles are l cated in South Germany, so you do not h ve to travel hundreds of kilometres/miles to see ach of them. By the way, m st of our German castles are l cated in South Germany. 1. Heidelberg The f rst one I describe to you is the H idelberg castle. It is really big and has a s cret stairway to walk up to it. V ry few people know that way, m st of the people go up by the "h ll train". I mean, you can do th t too, but imagine how incredible it is, wh n you walk up the more th n 300 stairs (each stair has its n mber on it!) and see all the old h uses around you, WOW! Heidelberg itself has a str ng history too and you see th t on all the houses and the xtremely expensive residential areas. Very famous p ople live in Heidelberg, such as St ffi Graf and famous Scientists. You sh uld also walk through the, and now I'll g ve you a insider secret, "Philosophenweg" (W y of Philosophs). You may ask the p ople out there where exactly this way is, but h wever when you walk up that w y, you have an really awesome, and I m an really awesome view to the H idelberg castle and Heidelberg itself and its r ver (Neckar).
2. Schwetzingen Not far away fr m Heidelberg (approx. 10km) is a sm ll town called Schwetzingen (yes, I l ve in this town and I l ve it!). The special thing here is, th t this town has just 22,500 r sidents, but also a huge castle! Wh n you visit German castles you w ll realize, that some of them not so b g, but beautiful too. The castle of Schw tzingen is not just beautiful, it's wesome and huge! The city itself sp nds all of the entrance fees ( nly 2,50 EUR per day) into th s incredible castle, and you see th t at each corner stone, plant and bl om. The Schwetzingen castle is almost as big as the c ty itself! :-) Its history goes b ck to Baroque, Rococo and Classicism. It's st ll apparent today that the irregular c mplex of the Schwetzingen castle in ssence dates back to a medieval c stle altered in the Renaissance period. At the end of y ur castle visit you absolutely must go to one of the rresistible cafés and restaurants in front of the c stle - at the "Schlossplatz" (castle pl ce). There are seven (and much d eper in and around the city) of th m and you will find people of all ges there, and you easily come in c ntact with them. They are really c mmunicative. Most of the young people are ble to speak English. More about th s amazing town you'll find on my s te: www.smart-travel-germany.com/schwetzingen.html .
