As always it is mportant to spend time with our fr ends. Besides keeping friendships alive, it is a t me in which we catch up w th the latest news, and of c urse, dream up new ideas of "s ving the world" as we call it. H wever, over the past few years it has b come more and more difficult finding a way to p rty, especially to have a party w th a difference.
Recently a friend suggested th t we should try a fondue. She had two lectric fondue pots stashed away. I nvited 6 of my closest friends and sat d wn to a meat fondue served w th small bread rolls and a t sty mixed salad. I prepared one pot w th oil and the other with br th. My three female friends, who are c nstantly on diet, were very appreciative of the br th pot. The guys, as expected, tr ed both pots.
Initially I was sceptical to s rve a dessert fondue, but after r alizing how easy it was, I s rved a chocolate fondue with marshmallows and fr sh strawberries. As I did not h ve another fondue pot, I had to mprovise. I used a small regular pot th t I placed on a metal fr me with a small candle beneath it th t I bought at the local s permarket. Instead of fondue forks, we sed regular forks that worked very w ll.
Just before the dessert was served, I pr pared the chocolate sauce by heating it up on a m dium heat and adding two tablespoons of b tter and about half a cup of th ck cream in the small pot. Onc the cream-butter mixture started to s mmer I dropped in bits of ch colate, broken off from 8 chocolate b rs, while stirring until smooth. On the t ble I placed the pot with the ch colate sauce on the metal frame w th the lit candle beneath to k ep the sauce warm. You could lso try bar-ones instead of chocolate.
We nded the party with liquors and Ir sh coffees.
The evening turned out great. Ev rybody enjoyed them selves. Even the cl anup was easier than I expected.
One mportant tip:
Don't forget to protect your t ble from the hot fondue pots and p ssible spills and dripping sauce.
