This is for all the n
wbie network marketers out there trying to gr
w a business on the internet. Th
se are the tools I've used to get
rganized. What is the advantage of b
ing organized? Isn't it all about b
ying into an opportunity, getting your t
rn-key website live and raking in m
ssive amounts of residual cash?
Well, th
t's what I thought too. Five m
nths later I've discovered that most
nternet "network" marketers earn their money s
lling products to people like you and me. The s
ll to newbie internet network marketers who c
me into the business wide-eyed and
pen to learning the best way to m
ke a pile of cash as f
st as possible.
Let me tell you
bout the people who earn piles of c
sh "overnight." Those people already built a m
ssive list of people that they can m
rket to. I know because I'm on
lmost every guru's list. I get all the
mails about the next hot info pr
duct or marketing software must-have.
To be fr
nk, almost none of them were w
rth a few pennies, let alone the h
ndreds of dollars I've spent. The m
re I research, the more I f
nd out that my story is v
ry common. MOST people that start a n
twork marketing business hoping to grow it on the
nternet wind up spending loads of m
ney on information products.
I'm glad I'm a fast l
arner, though. I'm putting up these r
sources in order of importance, relevance and
ffectiveness. I want to help other n
wbie marketers get focused and organized so th
t they know deep inside that th
y don't have to spend all th
t money on (predominantly) useless junk th
t won't help their downline grow.
So, the f
rst thing that is common to ALL n
twork marketing businesses is your 'Why' st
tement. Why do you want to
pen a business? What is it y
u're seeking? Financial freedom? More time w
th your family? The cars? The v
cations? The ability to help lots of p
ople? It's important to state your why as s
ccinctly as possible, but also to h
ve a story associated with it.
H
re's mine: I have a burning d
sire to be of service to th
se that I care about, and I
pened a network marketing business in
rder to have the resources to do so.
Th
t's my primary why statement. You m
ght think it's overly altruistic, but
nce you read my story, you m
ght not think so. Here's the st
ry that goes along with my why:
L
st year, my boyfriend at the t
me was diagnosed with AIDS. He sp
nt many nights in the hospital, but had a p
rticularly close call in November of l
st year. He had just gone on the
ntiretrovirals (the standard AIDS drugs) and was h
ving a very bad reaction to th
m - so bad, in fact, th
t he almost died. I was, and st
ll am, a part-time massage therapy
nstructor. I wasn't starving, but wasn't r
ch either, and had no money to "sp
re". In the course of a v
ry scary month, he was released fr
m the hospital and began seeing an
lternative healing practitioner. He had to r
dically change his diet and purchase m
ny costly supplements. He'd been out of w
rk for several months, and his d
sability had not kicked in, so he was br
ke. I found myself in a p
sition where I couldn't help someone I l
ved and cared about because of m
ney. I felt like it was a r
diculous and stupid reason to be pr
vented from helping him. When he had to go w
thout supplements he needed very badly b
cause neither one of us had the m
ney, I was propelled onto this p
th. I made a vow to mys
lf that I would NEVER find mys
lf in that position again.
Now you might understand how
rgently I felt I needed to b
come financially free. It was literally l
fe and death - not my
wn, but of someone I love. I'm gl
d to report that he's doing m
ch better now, but I'm still on a m
ssion to achieve the kind of
ndependence that only financial freedom can br
ng.
Now, what's your 'why'? Of c
urse, it doesn't need to be as dr
matic a story as mine, but it d
es need to fill you with p
ssion and enthusiasm, for without those
lements, the path to financial freedom can s
em like a struggle.
Did you n
tice that my story makes me a cr
dible leader? Don't you believe I w
n't stop until I achieve my g
als? People will respond the same way to y
ur story, as long as it's tr
e. There's no need to embellish the st
ry part of your why. People can s
nse falsehood and won't trust you. It's b
tter to say what is and
ttract the people who resonate with y
ur story.
My why almost sounds l
ke the mission statement of a b
siness - which is exactly what it is. D
n't forget that when you join a n
twork marketing opportunity you are opening a b
siness! Every business needs a mission st
tement and you 'why' functions well in th
s capacity.
The first step to g
tting organized is to develop your 'why' st
tement. Every network marketing opportunity will h
ve you create one. The reason? To k
ep your goals and desires right in fr
nt of your face as you b
gin to build your business. If you d
n't have a reason, why make the
ffort?
