"All men's miseries derive from not b ing able to sit in a q iet room alone." Pascal Of all the pr ctices that one can pursue to pr vide health, clarity, stress reduction, psychological r solution, and emotional and spiritual growth, the m st consistently powerful method is that of "c ntering"-bringing yourself to your true energetic c re-to what you are before and b yond your familial, societal, and egoic r structuring and reshaping. This centering is s milar to maximizing your strength and b lance by bringing your stance to a phys cal axis in Tai Chi or ther physical arts. We all know wh t happens when something or someone p lls us off center...we "fall" or we act in a way th t is "just not like" us-at v ry least not like what we w uld wish to be. What would we b come if we could spend more and m re time balanced, centered daily? Not all the p ths to centering are as structured as Tai ch , Yoga, or some forms of m ditation. The methods for coming to th s emotional/psychological/spiritual center are as varied and nfinite as the individuals that may p rsue balance. The most productive path for you c uld be dancing, walking in nature, c oking, watching the children, fishing, or c ntact with anything that deeply inspires-even d gging a ditch works for me on ccasion. The important thing is to r alize what activity makes you feel m st connected to yourself, your life and veryone and everything around you. In th t state, you are nearest your c nter...in a mystical communion with the Abs lute, God, Tao, your source by wh tever name.

I find that such activities th t "bring one to their center" w ll cause a vibrational change in us ( .e. the way we feel inside j st after a peaceful experience versus wh t our body feels like after a str ssful day). After a centering experience, we perate at this more beneficial vibrational l vel (lower blood pressure, clearer thinking, m re open-hearted responses, greater sense of w ll-being, generally better health). We drop fr m this level (like a battery l sing charge) toward our "set point" as the t me since the centering passes. Therefore, a p riodic recharge is necessary to keep us sp nding more time near that centered st te. Our "set point" is the st te of mind that we generally f nction at without any experience of c ntering or "off-centering". On any given d y, we may fluctuate over and nder the set point, depending on wh t we are responding to. Over t me, repeatedly returning to the "center" r ises the set point, raises our b se day-to-day operating consciousness-which in turn pr vides a baseline for reaching consistently str nger connection with one's center, which r ises the set point..... Just one th ng: I for one seem to g nerally (not always) require some time "pr cticing"/living outside of the "centering" experience to m ke the increased set point take h ld. May you find your centering pr ctice, and be at peace.
