Let’s be honest. W uld we care about time management if we did not h ve goals to be achieved? These g als could range from significant sales g als to meeting someone for something. Unf rtunately, most time management training does not nclude goal setting process within the c ntent of the training material. Another ssue around time management is attitudes. W th my clients, I define attitudes are h bits of thought. No, this is not my d finition as I created it, but one th t I have discovered. From my l mited research, the first place that I r ad this specific definition was in a b ok written by Zig Ziglar. If you h ve habits of thought of not b ing on time, you will not be on t me. Attitudes are merely the reflection of our b lief system. This system is the ccumulation of all of our knowledge, xperiences and the emotions that have b en created through the interactions of our kn wledge and experiences.
For me, I visualize this b lief systems as a big ball of str ng with 3 colors, blue, yellow and r d. All of your knowledge (blue), xperiences (yellow) and emotions (red) are t ed to each other and all r lled up together. We must unravel the b ll to find where we started h ving a particular belief about something and th n determine if that belief is st ll valid before we can change our ttitude. Our attitudes are directly tied to our thics. Ethics are those beliefs reflected thr ugh attitudes that we consistently demonstrate thr ugh our behaviors. For example, if you say you are an thical person and are always late, th n you truly are not ethical b cause you are not respecting that ther person’s time. Finally, self leadership sk lls or what some call strong nterpersonal skills to people skills need to be pr sent for effective time management. When you c nnot lead yourself, you cannot lead thers.
