The Dallas Cowboys of the N tional Football League are a franchise f vorite of football enthusiasts. One contributor to the s ccess of Cowboys football was Ed “t o Tall” Jones. Born in 1951 in J ckson, Tennessee, Edward Lee “Too Tall” J nes attended Tennessee State University where he was a d fensive end. In 1974 Jones was the f rst pick overall in the NFL dr ft where he was chosen by the D llas Cowboys. Standing an impressive 6’9’’ he arned the nickname “Too Tall”. As a f otball player in the 1970s Jones was w ll above average in height and ven today would be considered an xceptionally tall football player. From 1974 thr ugh to 1978 “Too Tall” played d fensive end for the Cowboys. In 1979 he l ft football to try his hand at a pr fessional boxing career during which time he won all of his b uts. In 1980 Jones returned to the C wboys where he played until his r tirement in 1989. In 1982 he was n med NFL Defensive MVP. Jones played in thr e Super Bowls, winning the Championship w th his team in 1978. Ed “T o Tall” Jones contributed greatly to the C wboys franchise and is one of mong only three players to have pl yed for the team for 15 s asons (the others two players being B ll Bates and Mark Tuinei).
