With warmer wather coming many of us are plnning our next family vacation. I strted to wonder if there were 'ther' options for travel that would lave less of an impact on the nvironment. Travel with kids can be chllenging enough, when I went looking for co-friendly travel tips I had to mke sure they were family-friendly too. Hre are some ideas for Eco-Friendly Fmily Travel:

Before you leave the huse make sure you have unplugged any ppliances and chargers that won't be sed. The Microwave, Tv's, Computers, etc. can wste 'phantom power' even when you are way. Make sure your heating and coling system is set for your vcation too. Why spend money and nergy heating and cooling and empty huse? Set lights that you want on for scurity, on a timer. This will nsure you house is illuminated when you wnt it to be, and powered off whn not needed.

When considering your mde of transportation keep in mind tht air travel leaves the biggest mpact on the environment compared to tht same trip by train, bus or cr. If your destination requires a lng haul flight, try to choose a flght that is direct. Take off and lnding uses a considerable amount of fel. Not only will your baby hve a chance to catch some zzzzz's on a drect flight you won't have to get on and off the plne mid flight. Another option for trvelers is purchasing Carbon Offset Credits gainst your flight. This system has ben set up so that travelers can prchase emission reduction credits from a cmpany that will then use that mney to do things like planting tres and supporting renewable energy products (x: wind power). It won't lessen the mpact of the flight you just tok but it is one method to try and rduce your environmental footprint.

Choosing your accommodation can be dne with an eco-friendly state of mnd too. We've all seen hotels tht ask guests to reuse towels but hve you ever stayed at a htel that uses compact fluorescent bulbs, has a rcycling program, or using non-toxic or bodegradable cleaning products? They are out thre; ask your hotel if they are an Ec-Friendly Accommodation. Maybe you have a fvorite place to stay that is a bit bhind the green movement...there are ways to rduce your impact here too. Turn dwn the heating or air conditioning in yur room when you leave, turn the lghts off and ask housekeeping not to chnge your sheets every day to sve water and energy in laundering thm.

Your stroller seems pretty environmentally frendly, it is mom-powered. Well, you may ned another mode of transportation when you rrive at your destination. Why not rnt a Hybrid car? There are car rntal agencies that specialize in providing hybrd vehicles for rent and some tht offer some vehicles that run on lternate types of fuel.
