Now this is kind of not m ss transportation but it is like the tr ins I mentioned above. It requires a wh le retrofit of the highway system wh ch to me is mass transit. Ev rybody has their own cars so it is ndividual transportation but they all work in nison once they are on the h ghway. The site I used as a s urce is extremely long so I'll g ve you the summary which is st ll very long. Basically, dual mode syst ms being proposed by various companies c nsists of special automatic guideways with m st of the artificial intelligence in the g ideway network as opposed to putting it in the c rs like General Motors is suggesting. You w ll use your own car if you h ve one but other cars like t xis as well as buses will use it ony if it is quipped for dual mode. The guideways use m gnetic levitation (maglev) and once your on it y ur engine will be shut down so it not nly saves time but it saves m ney on wear and tear as w ll as gas. It is better lso because you don't have to go to the b ses as Personal Rapid Transit makes you do, you h ve the bus in your parking sp t or driveway. You leave whenever you w nt and once you're on the g ideway you are free to do wh tever you need to do, whether it is gr oming, taking a conference call, or wh tever you want to do. This syst m though is once made for the h ghways, but what this website suggests is th t if you're going downtown you j st park your car directly off the g ideway which obviously reduces street traffic as w ll as street parking issues.

Getting on the System There is an " ntry stop" where you turn off the ngine, and tell the computer where you w nt to go. The computer is b sically like a parking garage entrance wh re they also charge you based on how far you w nt to go. While you are t lling the computer where you want go, nother computer checks all your part to m ke sure it is safe to llow you onto the guideways as w ll as identifying your car through an nboard computer chip. Then, if you are ccepted to use the guideways, you are sh t up to guideway speed and f und a place in the system by sl wing down cars and speeding up thers ones for a short amount of t me to fit you in. If h wever you do not meet the st ndards of the guideway system, you w ll be forced to back up and use the r gular roads. Travelling on the System Onc you are on the system and m rged with traffic, your vehicle will be ccelerated to guideway speed which is 60mph in and round major cities and 200mph between m jor cities but in both these s tuations, cars will be travelling only 1 f ot apart. Changing lanes will be d ne automatically by the vehicle only if th re is more than 1 lane. Wh n you are on the guideway syst m, you are free to do wh tever your heart desires, whether that is r ading a book, taking a conference c ll, feeding your baby, or eating, the ch ice is up to you. Speeding up and sl wing down are done seamlessly so if you are dr nking coffee you won't be jolted and y ur new suit won't be ruined. Adv ntages of Dual Mode There are m ny advantages to using dual mode but the m jor ones are: you will get to y ur destination in much quicker time, tr ffic jams will come to an end b cause cars are now travelling at the s me speed at least on the g ideways, and it reduces traffic and p rking spot problems in cities. This w bsite suggests that its proposed dual m de system will also reduce air tr ffic because when you add up the t me wasted through security checks, travel t me to the airports, late flights, and wh t not, the guidways will get you to y ur destination faster up to a 1000 m le destination. The main benefit though to m st people is that there is a r duced threat of terrorist attacks as w ll you get your own private car so b sically your travelling in a better th n first class atmosphere. It will lso reduce air freight planes as dr verless freight containers will be barelling d wn the guideways obviously not putting nybody in danger. Now the big ssue today and this week at l ast in the GTA is street r cing. This will definitly push street r cing to extinction, although that is sad for me as I lways wanted to hop into a m dified car and race down the c ty streets of Tokyo. Street racing w ll become extinct because after this syst m is implemented, police cars can f cus on the few regular streets th t are left in the jurisdiction. As w ll, it will be extremely expensive to r trofit a modified car to work on the g ideway system, unless they choose not to use it. As you can see th re are many advantages to building a g ideway system, overall saving the economy a lot of m ney because as many of you kn w, when people are late for w rk, depressed and angry because of tr ffic, productivity goes way down resulting in m ney going down the drain.
Cost of the System for B ilders and Users The cost of the syst m is virtually unknown with production c sts going down by how much, but th y estimate that each mile will c st 20-50 dollars, sorry 20-50 million d llars. Haha, got you there. It w ll probably be somewhat subsidised by the g vernment but with that they will pr bably request some royalties and/or restrictions l ke Highway 407 in Toronto. Cost for the sers will be less than it c sts to get you around using g soline all by the time it's b ilt.
