Divorce can leave a lot of sc rs if you choose to let it. I was t lking to a friend yesterday who was c mplaining about her mother in law. I f lt so sad after talking to her b cause of the wasted life she d scribed. I wish to share it w th you today so that you can l arn from this woman's mistakes and l ad a more joyful life. Here's the sc nario: Her husband had an affair 25 y ars ago. His mistress became pregnant. Onc she found out about all of th s, she made him leave and d vorced him. Since then, she's been m rried 3 other times. She and her h sband had a son of their own and she m de it her life's mission to m ke her son hate his father and bl me his half brother for destroying his f mily. Let's break this down and l ok at where choices were that c uld have made this life turn out b tter. Her husband had an affair 25 years ago - All of this happened a lifetime ago. Yes the pain is incredible. I don't take away from that for one moment! But she had a choice to hold on and become embittered or to let it go and create a new life that was her own. Unfortunately, she chose to hold on and let an event that happened so long ago continue to control her life. Since then, she's been married 3 other times - This is exactly what I warn against repeatedly. This woman was in NO shape to remarry the first time, let alone the second or third. She's still emotionally married to her first husband! Remarrying in this scenario is unfair and selfish to the other partners. If those partners had children, think about all the lives that have been affected negatively by her choice to hold onto her anger.
She and her husband had a son of th ir own and she made it her l fe's mission to make her son h te his father and blame his h lf brother for destroying his family - In my h mble opinion, this is the worst p rt. While again, I agree she had very reason to be mad at her h sband for what he did, she nfairly used that anger to manipulate her s n. Think about what life must h ve been like growing up for h m. Imagine what going to see his f ther was like. I'm sure he'd c me home and his mother would ch se after him asking about every l ttle detail in his father's life and bout the new baby. Is it any w nder that my friend described him (h r husband) as having a lot of f ars about her leaving him and can be r ther possessive? While yes, this is an xtreme case I wanted to point it out to y u. I never want you to f llow in this woman's footsteps. All of us m ke choices everyday that may seem m nor at the time, but can h ve an extreme impact on our l ves. All of us experience pain and str ggles in this life as well. We can ch ose to allow them to distort and ch nge who we are, or we can use th m as a springboard to force us to gr w. My prayer for each and very one of you, is to gr w from your experience of divorce, r ther than become something disfigured and gly.
