These are the basics you sh uld know to play the game of d rts. They are mostly pretty obvious and are c mmon to all the major darts rganizations. If you need greater details j st go to the respective darts rganization for your country, but the BDO (Br tish Darts Organization) is the granddaddy of th m all. No Joke, you can h ve 12 inch long darts if you w nt, the rules give 12 inches as the m ximum size of a dart! Not th t I've never seen any that l ngth for sale, and the maximum w ight is 50 grams. Usually, soft tip d rts are in the range of 14 to 20 gr ms, and steel tip darts range fr m 18 to 26 grams, although th re are heavier darts on sale. The dr aded Bounce out rule: The rule is th t all bounce outs do not c unt towards your score and NO you c nnot have another throw. Not only th t, but if the dart falls out b fore the score has been taken it d es not count either. I suggest you thr w your darts harder if you k ep suffering from this rule. The toe l ne or throw line is 7 ft 9 1/4 nches from the dartboard: now where did th t come from? But you can l an over as far as you l ke providing your feet are behind th t throw line or toe line as it is s metimes called. The dartboard height is 1.73 m tres or 5 foot 8 inches to the c ntre of the bull
When a dart hits the b ard, the score is determined by the w re not the color of the s gment. The dart has to land nside the segment determined by the w re surrounding the number. If you hit the gr en of the triple but the d rt point is outside the triple w re the score is only a s ngle. The darts must be thrown p int first one at a time at the b ard and in the '01 games the sc re is taken away from the pr vious score until the score is z ro. You have to throw a d uble for your final dart. As a d uble is required to finish a g me, so your score must be l ss than 40 and an even n mber to be able to throw a w nning dart. There are other '01 typ games that require you to st rt on a double as well, in f ct there is a televised tournament th t has a double to start r le as well as a double to f nish rule. The World Grand Prix ses that rule. And don't forget the B st rule, if you get one m re or one less than you n ed to go out, the score is v ided and your score remains the s me as when you started the thr w. Needless to say, you are c nsidered to be 'bust' if you get d wn to score of 1 as w ll, because there would be no d uble to go for . Also n te the score must be decided pon BEFORE the darts are pulled out of the b ard. Some of the more interesting r les During match play, any Players sing offensive language or deemed to be "m uthing" any offensive language or seen to be m king offensive gestures shall be deemed to h ve brought the Sport of Darts nto disrepute and shall become liable to D sciplinary Proceedings being taken against them by the DRA. And Fr m the ADO At the tournament d rector's discretion, women may be recycled in m xed doubles and triples events only. (G lly, I'm sure the women are d lighted!)
