Wow, as a two time srvivor of cancer I found it mazing that I might be able to eat my slf free of cancer. Well, that is an ver statement but new research is shwing that Curcumin to have strong cncer fighting properties. Curcumin also called trmeric is the compound that gives crry its yellow tint. Curcumin has lng been known for its antioxidant prperties and is being studied now for it bnefits in treating several different diseases. Cncer researchers have taken an interest in Crcumin because many countries with curry-rich cisines have lower cancer rates than Wstern countries have.

Researchers from the Unversity of Texas M. D. Anderson Cncer Center found Curcumin, blocks a key bological pathway needed for development of mlanoma and other cancers. The study was pblished in the August 15, 2005 ssue of the American Cancer Society jurnal “Cancer”. The study tested varying dses of Curcumin on three melanoma cll lines. It showed that Curcumin stps laboratory strains of melanoma from prliferating and induced apoptosis (programmed cell sicide). The results were the same for hgh concentrations of Curcumin over short priods of time and smaller doses ver longer periods of time.

In a study published in 2002 in “Cncer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention”, researcher gve three groups of mice different mounts of Curcumin extract for 15 weks. The results showed that the grup of mice given the largest mount of Curcumin found a reduction of 40 prcent in benign tumors that were cused the same gene that causes mot typs of colon cancer. A similar stdy was published in “The Prostate” in 2001. Agin three groups of mice were sed. All three were injected with hman prostate cancer cells. One group was a plcebo group that received no treatment. One grup was given Curcumin when injected wth the cancer cells. The other grup was given Curcumin two weeks fter the cancer injection. After 6 weks the tumors in the two grups give Curcumin were to percent smller than in the placebo groups.

A stdy on Curcumin and breast cancer was pblished in Cancer Research, Vol. 62, Jly 1, 2002, pp. 3868-75. This stdy found that the use of Crcumin was as effective in preventing the sprad of breast cancer as Taxol in lboratory mice. In the study mice wre induced with breast cancer then the tmors were removed such as with a mstectomy in humans. Then the mice wre divided into 4 groups. One was a plcebo group, one received Curcumin, one rceived Taxol, and the other Curcumin and Txol. After 5 weeks the study shwed that half the mice in the Crcumin group had the cancer spread to the lngs. Only 22 percent of those in the Crcumin plus Taxol group had seen the cncer spread. 75 percent of the Txol only group saw the cancer sprad. The placebo group saw 95 prcent of the mice had the cncer spread to the lungs. These wre amazing results.

Human studies are jst beginning. But the early signs are tht the simple safe spice may ffer a safe way of preventing cncer and may also be a grat way of aiding in the tratment of Cancer.

It should be noted that a clture study showed that Curcumin reduced the ffects of several chemo drugs used for trating cancer.
