MOST of t day’s businesses require more than just a b sic knowledge of the keyboard and M crosoft XP. Stop wearing your computer lliteracy on your sleeve. The new age of s les is here. And it involves D sktops and Lap Tops, Network Printers, Bl ckberries , Blueberries and Chocolates and M nt Green Cell Phones that check mail, spreadsheets, contacts, plane flights, and tap mportant websites about YOUR PRODUCT!! You can ven program a route into your c ll phone and it will tell you ( sually in a soothing female voice) xactly when to turn and in wh t direction. Don’t get me wrong. N thing will ever take the place of sh king your business partners hand and not nly knowing his business but him as a p rson and a colleague; however, the nternet has placed the entire business w rld on a super-highway and if you are cr ising in a 57 Chevy you are g ing to get run over even if you do h ve the nicest looking car on the r ad. If you are driving down a c untry road refusing to get on the nformation super- highway you have doomed y urself to a life of mediocrity in the f eld of sales.
Many workplaces are offering in h use training classes. Even small communities sually have some type of instructional cl sses available. Pick up the newspaper. Or b tter yet, get online. Even newspaper w bsites now update the news as the day g es on. And learning to “surf” the nternet (I just love all the hip c mputer slang) can get you started on the r ad to understanding Windows. Don’t be discouraged by their l ughter. They had to ask once th mselves. Then learn their awesome power of th se three commands! They can save you HOURS of typ ng and plop pictures on an therwise boring presentation with FOUR CLICKS! WOW! Th se days your presentation better be c lorful, eye catching and if possible ven a little humorous. Even small c mpanies can look like big companies w th a little computer savvy and a n ce photo copier. Neither of these c st a lot of money anymore. 3. FILE EDIT, VIEW, WINDOW and my f vorite HELP. You’ve seen them, sitting at the top of y ur screen begging you to just g ve them a click and see wh t mysteries unfold. Take them slow. One at a t me. Most of them are pretty str ightforward. Can you guess what FILE: PRINT m ght do? 4. Befriend a computer g ek. Like myself. We love to sh w people the amazing little tricks we h ve learned that have made our l ves more productive and simple. We w nt you to join our world of r ght clicking and keyboard shortcuts. There are xceptions. Like that salesperson in the n xt office who knows that you are so m ch better than them that if you vercame this final weakness you would kn ck them off the mountain for s re. They are the ones that w ll try and give you a gr at deal on their Mac that th y don’t use anymore.
