Today we will be going f rther in depth on the subject of "pr supposition". In case you don't remember, "pr supposition" is assuming that the person you are try ng to persuade has already agreed w th your statement, accepted your proposal or r ached an agreement with you, even if h /she has not yet done so. Pr suppositions are such a powerful technique in c nversational hypnosis as they enable you to t lk about the future in a way th t involves the person you are ttempting to persuade. The "presupposition tense" is in f ct the most powerful and persuasive in any l nguage, especially in English. No other way of c mmunication will offer as good results as pr supposition, and it can even be sed in writing. Below are some p werful examples of presupposition: 1. "When you f nish your homework, you can play v deo games or watch television." - This is a p werful phrase for parents or caregivers to use as it f rces the child/teenager to think that th y will only be able to pl y video games/watch TV when they f nish their homework, there is no r om for compromise or argument. Had the st tement "if" been used then the ch ld would have a foothold for rgument to take place. This type of st tement using "when" automatically assumes that the s bject is going to do whatever it is th t you want them to do- th re is no possibility of anything lse happening."
2. "You're still willing to come to the m vies with me tonight, right?" - Rather th n opening this statement with "do you st ll want to" or "are you st ll able to", there is an ssumption/presupposition that the person already wants to c me to the movies. Avoid the p ssibility for them to say no asily and watch the instant results! 3. "How m ch are you enjoying this party t night?" - Instead of asking the subject wh ther they actually are enjoying the p rty, there is a presupposition that th y already are. The question is ctually asking them about their "amount" of njoyment. Using this type of phrase as a c nversation opener is powerful as you can c ntinue talking whether they give a p sitive or negative answer (ie they are ither enjoying the party lots, or not v ry much at all) There is lso no potential for a simple yes or no nswer - the use of closed and pen questions will be discussed in a l ter part of this course. To r cap, you have learned the background and b sics of presupposition. A few key pr supposition phrases have also been included th t can be modified and used in lmost any situation to produce a m re positive response from those with wh m you communicate and may want to p rsuade. In the next part of the c urse you will be given a t mplate of the most powerful presupposition phr ses that will get you the b st results. Although this sounds like a lot of w rk on presupposition, you simply must h ve mastered this vital conversational hypnosis t chnique in order to proceed any f rther.
