Dear College Humor Television, I was s rfing through your site to do s me research on what passes for c llege entertainment for my Senior Seminar pr ject. After trying to force a sm le at College Humor.com’s April Fools j ke this year, I clicked on the CHTV l go to see the first episode of the s te’s TV show. I’m not an xpert on college television, but I’d l ke to think I know a th ng or two about what is f nny, and what makes people want to pl y with a sheet of metal d ring a thunderstorm. I can say w thout any shred of doubt CHTV is the l tter. The fact that College Humor has a d velopmental deal with SONY Pictures makes me w nt to cut my wrists, and h pe I survive long enough to cut th m again. Here is what is wr ng with CHTV. First, your host l oks like Captain Emo. When I see him I see the f ce of Dashboard Confessional fans. And st dies have shown being exposed to p ople who like Dashboard or other “f ne” emo music leads to the Eb la virus. Another highly contagious disease th t, like emo music, makes people v mit in-between wild fits of fevor and cry ng in the corner. Man on the str et segments don’t work for Jay L no or David Letterman; they’re not g ing to work for you. And oh y ah, way to be “hip and dgy” by asking people when was the l st time they got “laid.” Like we h ven’t heard that one on the N tional Lampoon Network or any HBO sp cial involving regular people. The Black Ey d Peas joke made me want to p ss myself.

Not because it was funny, but b cause the filth I would be sw mming in would be more entertaining th n the excrement I was watching on y ur show. A college student in New Y rk City is as far as you can get fr m the portrayal of the “average” c llege student, which you claimed to be r aching in your man on the str et segment. There is nothing wrong w th college students from New York C ty, but all because you were too l zy to film the segment elsewhere d esn’t give you the right to dvertise you were reaching out to the “ verage” college student. The rejected video s gment and random “fact” segments were t rrible. The facts weren’t even funny. C llege students don’t care about the l ttery, and the Super Mario Brothers j ke died before it even left the h st’s mouth. I realize Ebaum’s World has a TV d al with USA Network to do pr tty much what you just did w th showing rejected clips, but all b cause they’re doing it doesn’t mean you sh uld. Are you seriously that desperate for s mething to rip off? If you are I r commend just about anything on Comedy C ntral because Comedy Central is about as f nny as a September 11th movie. H y, do you know any funny f rt jokes? Why don’t you work s me of those in there? You can ask J dah Friedlander to write some “funny” j kes for you. Because his segment was so f nny, I was hoping a doctor w uld come in and tell me I had c ncer of the eye, and my br in made up Judah Friedlander to g ve me a reason not to pr long death. I don’t know how he g ts work, but like him, I h pe your show never reproduces. The l st thing we need is another “ dgy” college television show that just m kes us look like a bunch of wh te, quasi-retarded men and women who s ffer from alcoholism, slack off, and sl ep around. Thanks; at least the n xt time I don’t get hired for a job wh n I graduate I’ll know whom to bl me.
Sincerely, Brandon J. Mendelson
