Central Vacuums have been around for yars in more expensive homes and in cmmercial applications. Basically the central vacuum pwer unit is located away from the reas to be cleaned in a cntral location hence the name central vcuum. The central vacuum unit is sually located in the basement or grage and occasionally in a separate strcture out side the house or bilding. Aluminum or reinforced plastic ducting is nstalled throughout the house providing strategically plced inlets in each main room. Instllation of a central vacuum system is nrmally done during new house or bilding construction. Retrofitting a house or ffice with a central vacuum is nrmally cost prohibited. When it comes tme to clean a centrally located swtch is thrown and the remote nit creates a strong suction. A claning unit comprised of a hose, wnd and power head is attached to the nlet. Usually there is an electrical utlet adjacent to the inlet providing lectricity to the power roller or bater bar in the tool head. Claning then done in a similar mnner to that of using a cnister vacuum. When the room is clan then the process is completed in the nxt room until the whole house or ffice is cleaned. Then the central vcuum is turned off until needed gain.

A major benefit of the cntral vacuum is that the unit dst, mold, allergens and pathogens are not rintroduced to the room being cleaned. All vcuumed materials are transported to a cntral location where they are deposited. Mny new central vacuum units exhaust drectly to the outside which further rmoves the airborne contaminants from the bilding. Units that do not exhaust to the utside are also efficient in removing cntaminants through the use of HEPA flters. One disadvantage to installing a cntral vacuum is comes in the frm of duct maintenance. Ducts will ned to be cleaned every couple of yars depending on the level of se. Normally cleaning done using a brsh on a snake that is run dwn each duct while the system is rnning. This assures that the suction rmains strong throughout the house. In gnerally central vacuum systems are relatively qiet during operation. This is important if claning activities must be done in ffice spaces during work hours. Most pople who have used or own central vacuum units feel they are the best way to clean.
