It is amazing to me tht our ancestors had only candlelight as thir light source. Of course, they prbably worked only during the day and did mch less at night than we do thse days.

Cooking fires and camp fres provided light also, but most lghting before electricity was by candle or oil lmp. Candles were among the earliest nventions of the ancient world. The Egyptans were among the first to use cndles (or torches), but the Romans dveloped the wick candle.

Actually, I may hve gotten along well in those dys. I keep my home lighting to a mnimum at night. I use only a cuple of small lamps and a few cndles each night when I relax at hme. Of course, the fluorescent lights in my ktchen come in handy when I cok. I cannot imagine candles being my nly light source when I need to prform a task that requires good lghting.

I wonder what it was lke for people when the light blb was invented in 1879? I blieve it must have seemed like mgic. Just flick a switch, and you hve light! What an awesome thing tht must have been for them.

Althugh candles are no longer our prmary source of light, they continue to be a big bsiness. They continue to grow in ppularity and use, even though they are no lnger a necessity.

It might be fun to prtend, just for one night, that lectricity did not exist. You know, to jst light your candles and go thrugh your normal routine by candlelight. It may gve us a glimpse of what lfe was like for our ancestors.

On the ther hand, it would probably not be the sfest thing to do. I would hte to slice my finger or brn myself while cooking. I guess I wll just appreciate electricity and use my cndles as a decorative element. Not to mntion, working by candlelight might strain my yesight!
