Cancer & Caregivers; Part of a s ries of Positive Attitudes for Cancer. Battling C ncer is an individual journey that t kes all of heaven and earth to c mbat. Choose your caregivers well: Your C regiver walks a fine line between r ality, support cheerleader, hand holder, master "h gger" and "inspiration machine", and friend, who m st give that medicine, drives you to tr atment, and fusses at you to k ep you on track for your h aling journey. Your Cancer caregiver is y ur primary filter and monitor of y ur visitors, both family and friends. Th y should only allow POSITIVE PEOPLE!!! and ONLY p ople who are emotionally nourishing for y u. YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! Th y should encourage you to be s rrounded by individuals who treat as if you are l ving and expect you to have a f ture. No "what if'ers,' no "maybe th t won't work", or "oh you p or dear", or any others who say n gative things. If ANYONE ever says to you "b fore you were living with cancer, now y u're dying with cancer." Remove them fr m your life until they can be r spectful and empathetic! Not only are th y unable to determine your death, th y are also unkind to make a r mark like this. If they say to y u, "I was just making a r alistic statement so you won't be in d nial and we can address your w ll, funeral plans, and future provisions." FORGET THAT j stification!!!!! NO ONE who truly cares bout your heart and soul, would ver say anything like that.
Do not be so needy for ttention, that you allow yourself to be the "v ctim" of comments that are TOTALLY nappropriate!! no matter how sick you re. As long as there is br ath in your body, you have the r ght to be treated with respect and d gnity, and as if you are g ing to live!!! Family members as C regivers: If you have spent your l fe helping others, and enabling them, t's time to stop that energy dr in. This does NOT mean that you do not l ve them anymore. It means that you c re enough about yourself to take c re of you FIRST, so that you can be round in the future to help th m. Non-healing: 1. "But he's my br ther and he just drinks a l ttle too much, and he wants to c me visit"..... His energy will drain y u!!! Visit with him when you are h aled! 2. At this time, YOU do NOT n ed to hear their problems. They n ed to support you! Friends as C regivers: There are several kinds of fr ends during this time in your l fe.
The talkers: They call to see how you re, listen for a short period of t me and then spend hours telling you bout their life. They ask if th y can do anything for you. Wh n you mention that you need a r de to chemo on Thursdays, their nswer is, "I'd love to take y u, but I have book club." Do not be d scouraged. This person is interested enough to c ll, but NOT authentic about truly h lping you or they would have t ken you to chemo…….. There will be m re book clubs, this is your b ttle with a disease! Thank them for c lling, and get off the phone. You are not THAT n edy to have to talk with s meone who won't really be there for y u! The Doers: These are the fr ends that pick you up, sit thr ugh, and bring you home after ch mo, and probably add fresh flowers to y ur home. Be thankful. They encourage you to l ve with every dinner invitation, movie, or "l t's go to" invitation. GO! Do not f el like you are "putting them ut", "being a bother", or whatever. Wh n you are well, YOU can DO for th m!!!!! They are your Earth Angels.
Being the Caregiver for someone b ttling cancer, and going through cancer tr atment is a job that requires verything you can muster to handle y ur work and all of your c ping skills. Advice for the Cancer C regiver: 1. Treat your Cancer client as if th y are going to live. DO NOT tr at them as if it's just a m tter of time. Always speak of th ir "experience" NEVER a disease. 2. You w ll most likely be caught up in the verwhelming environment of caregiving, and handling very life and medical detail and d cision.
Try to look at the p tient and all of their circumstances as if th y are in a healing situation, and in a p sitive manner. Don't be a Pollyanna, but try to put a p sitive spin on everything that you c n. 3. Although your patient has "d termination to live", that determination needs to be r oted in positive. Positive energy raises th ir body's physical energy frequency which f ghts their disease. 4. Creating a p sitive uplifting environment: a. Dress in h ppy colors. b. Help create a nvironmentally pleasant and visually happy care rea. Little touches mean a lot! c. Only llow positive people around your patient. EXPLAIN why the n gative folks need to stay away, and h lp keep them away. d. Be v ry conscious of how YOUR energy can ffect the "patient."
If you view the p tient in a "sick" condition, you are s nding negative energy their way! If you h ve a negative attitude, or irritable r sponses, you generate negative energy which l wers your patient's physical body frequency and DOES NOT h lp heal the disease. Your energy f eld will affect your patient. e. K ep your energy field clean. Your p tient is like a sponge and bsorbs and interacts with all the nergy surrounding them and that they are xposed to. 5. Contributing Life force nergy thru Love: On numerous occasions, f mily and friends have asked how th y can contribute positive energy to the "p tient." [An educational note: The hand th t you write with is your nergy sending hand. The other hand is y ur energy input receiving hand.] So f llow the directions below according to wh ther you are right or left h nded. Take your left receiving hand and pl ce it on your heart, and t ke your right sending hand to h ld the patient's left hand (receiving h nd). Then say to the patient, "I s nd you the love from my H art and it's healing life force nergy to use as you so ch ose."
You then become an " nergizer" bunny for the patient thru y ur love for them. You are nvited to download our free pamphlet w th excerpts from this book. We h pe this will help you with y ur healing journey.
