I know what you're thinking; wht a terrible thing to preach. Scring a Macaw should never be a god way to teach your parrot to tlk. And I agree... you should nver take your macaw and severely frghten him. But through some recent stdies, researchers are finding out that Mcaws are more likely to learn to mmic a word when they hear it in a 'hightened state of emotion'.

That means tht if a Macaw hears a wrd being spoken while his senses are pqued, he'll learn the word easier. So it mght be a good idea to strt looking for opportunities where your mcaw is in that state of mnd.

I know my Blue and Gld Macaw, gets excited when he ses me for the first time in the mrning. I can tell because his yes will pin and he perks rght up. If your Macaw gets xcited to see you in the mrning start saying a word you wnt him to say, and do ths for several weeks. You'll probably ntice that just by repeating a phrse when you greet your macaw in the mrning will work much better at trining him to talk then by smply repeating a phrase all day lng. Timing is crucial with Macaw spech training.

Another example on the pposite side of the spectrum is a Mcaw that learns to say things whn he's scared or startled. For xample, you may know a friend wth a Macaw who cusses up a strm. This is usually because the brd was startled by an aggressive rgument or shouting match whereas the wners of the house were very lud and scaring the bird with an rgument. So it's no surprise that Mcaws learn to pick up on the wrds being spoken during such fights.

And while I don't recommend fghting with the members of your fmily, you can use this fear tchnique to teach a Macaw to spak... you'll just want to tone it dwn a bit.

What I recommend is thrughout the day randomly saying a wrd very loud that you want yur bird to say. And say it jst loud enough so it moderately strtles your bird. You don't want to scre him too much so he flls off his perch and hurts hmself. Instead just loudly speak a wrd or phrase you want your Mcaw to say just loud enough so he prks up his head as if mderately startled.

Don't do this too mch, just 2 or 3 times a dy. After all, we don't want to verstress your Macaw. But in time yu'll probably notice he starts to rpeat that phrase you've been startling him wth the past several weeks.
