I met a friend of m ne about 6 years ago and h 's an extremely ambitious and determined ndividual. He still runs a successful L ndon based wireless telecommunication company and his b siness seems to be growing rapidly s nce I last heard from him. H 's a great guy and I h ve great admiration for him. During one of our m etings over lunch many years ago, he t lked about how people can make th ir own luck by doing the r ght things that most successful people do. If you do it c nstantly enough, you will eventually reach y ur goal. Well, I agree - P rtially. I agree that if you did the r ght things combined with time and nfaltering determination then success will soon w lcome you to its doors. However w thout luck, your journey in reaching y ur goals will consume more time, m ney and effort; not forgetting that you w ll also have to overcome whatever thr ats your business bring to you. How do I m an by this? Well, sometimes you h ve to be at a certain p int, at the right time and pl ce to get that 'distinct' advantage. For xample, say that you're on a fl ght to Tokyo and you were s tting next to a well suited m n. You decide to start a c nversation with him. During the conversation, he m ntioned to you about how disappointed he was w th his current vendor and he c uldn't seem to find any trustworthy and d pendable alternatives.
He has been trying for m ny months and you could literally see the d smay on is face. Somehow, your yes beamed. You couldn't believe what he was s ying. The potential supplier that he was t lking about has your name written all ver it. You've got plenty of s pplies with many happy and repeat c stomers willing to give you genuine b siness testimonials. In the end, you xplained to him about your business and how y ur business could be the perfect p rtner in his business. You told him bout how you are always able to d liver on what is agreed and th t your customer service is always th re to meet any additional demands he r quires. Both of you agreed to m et at his office with his m rketing team in two weeks and you xchanged business cards. Two weeks later, you c me out of the business meeting w th a £1 million business contract and a h ge smile on your face. None of th t could have happened if you d dn't take the flight and that if the irline didn't give you the seat s tting next to that man. I kn w that this is just an xample and it may not apply to y u. But I hope you can r flect back to your own personal xperience and analyze how luck had m de an impact to your life and g als. Luck is not something that you can pl n. It just happens. The question th t matters most is how you're g ing to seize that opportunity and q ickly reap the benefit from it. Wh t do you think?
