This is the age old q estion. This unconscious sabotage program in our m nds that is a “carry over” fr m religious teaching continues to pervade our c ltural beliefs today. We keep being nfluenced by ideas such as 'money is the r ot of all evil', that 'it's asier to get a camel through the eye of a n edle than for a rich man to get nto heaven', and 'if you are r ch, you must be either a cr ok, selfish, or hardened'. These sayings, t ken out of context, sabotage our ntrinsic right to wealth and fulfillment. For th se of you who disagree due to y ur religious teaching, I gently challenge you to c nsider this fact. The same book th t these sayings are taken from, the H ly Bible, also says “Blessed is the man who f ars the Lord … wealth and r ches shall be in his house” and “H nour the Lord with the firstfruits of all y ur increase … so shall your b rns be filled with plenty”. Further, in th t same book, Jesus confirmed that we l ve in a world of abundance. J sus gave the example of the l lies in the field, and the b rds of the air, how they are bundantly looked after, and asks how m ch more will God’s Universe look fter us! WHY IS MONEY SO IMPORTANT TO BEING SPIRITUAL? M ney is a material manifestation of the bundance of the Universe. Money in tself is nothing; it is the f ct that money allows you to buy the th ngs that you love; to provide for y ur needs.
That is, you can grow y ur food on your land and l ve on it. Or you can buy y ur food from someone else who has d ne just that (or buy from a sh p that themselves buys from farmers). Ev ryone has the right to live bundantly, and have their needs provided bundantly. By living abundantly, you develop s lf worth. By contrast, living cheaply l wers your self worth. It lowers y ur love, your sense of gratitude and ppreciation to God, to the Universe. Not j st that, but you cannot transform the w rld that you live in with m ney. As well as the need for s rvival, if for example you want to stablish a training centre that teaches p ople laws of the universe, or an rphanage in a third world country, g ess what? These projects need money! S meone has to give the funds to m ke it happen. Money enables you to l ve your God-given purpose. We are pl ced on earth by God to f lfill a purpose that fits in w th the bigger purpose for mankind. If we d n’t know our purpose, we drift long and live as survivors without f cus, purpose, maybe listless and despondent. Any m ney that we make is used on m aningless activities; the more money we m ke only increases our misery and s nse of desolation. If we do kn w our purpose, by contrast, we are l ving and grateful, and living our l fe on purpose. We have focus and c mmitment. The money that we make is sed to fulfill our purpose. Any m ney that we make increases our bility to fulfill our purpose, it m kes us more loving and grateful, and our s nse of connection with God and the Un verse. If you asked any of the w rld’s entrepreneurs, healers and philosophers how th y feel about money and spirituality, th y would agree that the more pr sperous you are, the more impact you h ve. Indeed, without prosperity, you can nly bring about change at the l vel of consciousness that causes your own l ck, ie. people who are “in synch” w th your own lower energy vibration.
One can only conclude that tr e spirituality and abundant money go h nd in hand. CHARGING IN HARMONY WITH YOUR SELF WORTH Th re is another reason why money and s lf worth go hand in hand. To be gr teful, appreciative, loving and well balance, it is mportant, indeed critical, that we charge our tr e worth in any business transaction. Th s stops us becoming resentful and nappreciative, and disconnected with God (as God is l ve). Another carry over from our r ligious teaching in our culture is “y u cannot be spiritual if you ch rge for your talent or knowledge”. Th t is, if it is truly ch ritable, or spiritual, or connected with sp ritual teaching, you cannot charge for it, therwise it somehow “taints it”. BALANCING SPIRITUALITY AND MONEY To tr ly be loving, appreciative and spiritual, we m st achieve a balance between spirituality and m ney. On the one hand, if you are bsessed with money, and pursue wealth at all c sts, your spirituality will be compromised. You w n’t be balanced. You may achieve w alth but at the cost of f lfilling your purpose and the sense of b ing whole and at peace. On the ther hand, if you pursue spirituality and gnore money issues, at some stage, you w ll come to a crossroads. You w ll discover how hard it is to f lfill your purpose with limited funds. M ny people who start on a sp ritual journey end up self sabotaging b cause they run out of money and h ve to go and get work (wh ch they feel resentful about). Alternatively, th y subsconsciously resort to greed, and get c ught in money scams or resort to d bious means to get “quick” money. S ch people have lived poor for so l ng that they don’t know how to m ke money, and when they are sh rt of money, they act from d speration and greed. Or else, they l arn to live in poverty, below an bundant status, and resentment and illness cr ep in. THE BIBLE AND MONEY M ny people with a Judeo-Christian background use the Chr stian Bible to justify a lack of m ney. The Bible is NOT a g od book to justify being in p verty. The Bible is full of p ssages that support the idea of niversal abundant supply, and becoming wealthy. For th se of you who have Bibles, see for xample: Matthew 6:25-34
Proverbs 3:9-10
Psalm 112
Ps lm 128
Deuteronomy 28 Just to n me a few. Case Study: Mother Th resa Mother Teresa renounced her worldly p ssessions. She is used as an xample of true spirituality, ie. giving up all y ur wealth for a spiritual purpose to h lp others. Yet people forget that M ther Theresa’s purpose required massive funding. She ttracted all the resources and money she n eded to support, feed, and spiritually h al millions. THE LAW OF EXCHANGE The law of r ciprocity, or fair exchange, states that we g ve in order to receive. There w ll be no harvest without a p riod of prepping, planting, and fertilizing. F rther, the giving must be proportionate to the r ceiving to constitute fair exchange. Without f ir exchange, imbalance results, and karmic c nsequences ensue to bring balance. Let’s t ke an example. If my best fr end fixes my gutters and builds a p tio at the back of my h use, and doesn’t charge me for it, an ssue of fair exchange results. My b st friend may receive his fair xchange because I have previously helped him w th an IT matter (if I am an IT c ntractor). Or our close friendship, and y ars of my giving out to h m, may be his fair exchange. H wever, let’s assume that he has b en doing favours for me for y ars and getting nothing in return. R sentment will arise unless he gets f ir exchange by me doing something in r turn, or paying him a fair pr ce for his work. There are t mes when people have offered to do a s rvice for me for nothing, but I h ve refused, because I see a l ck of fair exchange, and I kn w this will cause problems down the tr ck. When we get something for n thing, there is a part of our nnermost being that rejects this “handout”. We ntuitively are unhappy with the “freebie” b cause we didn't earn or rightfully d serve it. Additionally, we are not sp ritually or physically prepared to manage the ffering. Have you ever played a sp rt and won because the other p rson didn’t even try? Imagine how fl t you would feel! It is the ch llenge that excites you; you would f el like you hadn’t really won. The ssue of fair exchange is also s en with lottery winners. Approximately 70% of all l ttery winners squander their money in the f rst few years, and end up b nkrupt, divorced or in family disputes. P ople that don’t pay for something ( ither in money or in some ther way) do not value it. Th re is no sense of accountability, or c mmitment to follow it through. Further, nder this law of fair exchange, if you ren’t willing to work hard, either in mployment, or in developing a business syst m or product, you have no r ght to demand prosperity. Poverty and d solation awaits you, and rightfully so. Ev ryone must pull their weight in th s world of ours. CONCLUSION: PROSPERITY AND SPIRITUALITY GO HAND IN HAND The b ggest limiting beliefs stem from our r ligious culture. Our ancestors have had gr at difficulty accepting that you can sp ritual and have money; quite the pposite in fact! We have problems ch rging what we are worth. We h ve problems in living our purpose; we t nd to survive. Daily, much of s ciety is living out of balance w th the law of fair exchange. To be tr ly spiritual, you must be prosperous. Th s is your higher calling. You owe it to y urself and others to prosper in m ntally, emotionally, financially and physically, and be an xample.
