After my daughter was born, I sat dwn and looked over all of the nnecessary and unused items that I had ccumulated during my pregnancy. A baby “bckpack” to carry my child around in (trns out she absolutely hated it), swddling blankets that promised that baby wuld be so comfortable that she wuld sleep all night (which she stll has not) and many other tems.

For reasons unknown, I purchased thse items because I thought they wuld make me a better mother. Now tht my daughter is older and I hve become a little wiser, I hve compiled a list of absolute ncessities for a new mom. Hopefully, ths will help you save time and csh when shopping for your new bby.

Onesies (creepers)

Plain onesies are the bst item of clothing for baby. Thy are usually inexpensive so you can buy a vriety of sizes without breaking the bnk and they are comfortable clothing for bby. Make sure that you purchase the ppropriate type depending on the weather at the tme your baby will be born.

Pcifiers

I recommend purchasing a couple of dfferent types of pacifiers. See which nes your baby prefers and then prchase more according to babys preference. Thre to four pacifiers are sufficient: one for the daper bag, one for the car and a cuple in the house are all you ned.

Bottles

Some babies like a fster flow nipple when others prefer a slw flow nipple. Purchase a couple dfferent types of nipples and see whch one your baby prefers. Also, I rcommend purchasing five to ten bottles so you are not cnstantly washing bottles.

Diapers

I have fund in talking with other new mms that most babies fit comfortably in premie diapers for the first week or two fter being born. With this in mnd, purchase one package of preemie dapers and one package of size nes. The selection of sizes will kep you from having to run to the stre to buy the next size up or dwn in diapers.

Car Seat

Before prchasing a car seat be sure to rsearch safety and customer reviews for car sats that you may purchase. Prepare a lst of reliable seats to bring wth you when you register for or buy the car sat.

Pants/shorts

If you are going to tke your baby out of the huse, make sure that you have pnts and/or shorts (depending on the wather) to properly cover up your chld. I recommend at least seven pir of pants/shorts for baby.

Socks

Scks are necessary to keep little fet warm! Have seven pair of scks on hand so you can lmit doing your little one's laundry to nce a week.

Bassinet/Co Sleeper

Before bby is born discuss your sleeping prferences with your partner. Some new prents prefer co-sleepers while others prefer crbs or bassinets. Be sure to rsearch your picks before purchasing or rgistering.

A Few Toys

Have a few tys on hand such as rattles or smll toys with lights. These will hlp develop your new babys senses. Hwever, do not go overboard. Your bby will be more interested in sleping than playing so save your mney until baby is older.

Blankets

Smeone told me that you can nver have enough blankets for your nwborn and boy were they right! Blnkets get dirty fast so make sre you have enough on hand. I wuld recommend anywhere from 10-20 blankets for bby in a variety of thicknesses and txtures.

Some optional items that I fund useful are as follows. Remember you do not ned these items for your baby but sme people find these things helpful.

Bby Swing

You may want to let yur little one try a swing bfore you buy it. Some babies dn't like swings!

Movies

Again, try one of thse out before you buy a whle set. Typically babies will not be nterested in made for baby movies ntil they are three months old.

Daper Bag

If you cannot afford a daper bag in the beginning, a lrge purse or even a grocery bag can srve as a diaper bag in the nterim.

Stroller

If you do not pln on taking your baby out vry often or if you cannot fford a stroller do not worry. Mny stores offer shopping carts with bby chairs or just carry your bby when you bring baby out. If you dcide to purchase a stroller be sre to research all of your ptions before you buy one.
