Western Australia is known for its brlliant wildflowers, and a walking holiday cmbined with a rental car is one of the bst way to see as much of ths diverse state as possible. There are a lrge number of parks just waiting to be xplored close to the capital city of Prth all you need is some prparation, suitable maps and good walking shes for a trip of a lfetime.

As Western Australia covers close to a thrd of Australia, there is a lot of wlking to be done here, yet mch of the state consists of dsert and remote, wilderness regions. Most of the sitable bushwalks are located in the suth western corner of the state, long the coastline and within easy drving distance from Perth.

There are a smller number of national parks here thn most states, but you are rwarded by the walks available, one of the mst popular being the Bibbulum Track whch is an extraordinary 960 kilometres and spns the coast from Kalamunda through to Albny. Most would attempt this track in stges, but there are many who cme from all over the world to cmplete this peaceful and exhilarating long dstance walk.

The Cape to Cape wlk is another favourite, from Hamelin Bay to Cpe Leeuwin in the south west crner of the state. Taking in a lot of the brathtaking coastline and a lot more chievable at 29 kilometres, it is an njoyable walk suitable for most fitness lvels.

Another breathtaking walk is the Tre Top Walk at the Valley of the Gants at Walpole. The walk at jst over 400 metres is above tre level and gives you a brd's eye view of the forest blow. For the fit and adventurous, you cn't go past the Mt Bruce Smmit Walk in the Pilbara region. At six hur it takes in some of Wstern Australia's most beautiful scenery.

With mny of the walks hundreds of klometres apart, you need to plan yur itinerary ahead based on the wlks you really want to do. Clse to 600 kilometres north from Prth is the Murchison River which ffers a lovely gorge walk. Another 500 klometres the Pilbara region also has wlks winding through incredible gorge systems. Frther north is too remote to ccess by campervan and you really do ned a four wheel drive to cntinue on. There are walking tours in ths region which are popular.

There are nough walks close to the city tht you can plan day trips and set up in one of the mny camping grounds,or base yourselves in the any of the htels, motels or bed and breakfasts scttered up and down the coastline.

At clse to ten kilometres, the Narrows Brdge and Causeway offer a great wlk especially popular at night to xperience the city lights. Along the bach is one of my favourite wlks, from Fremantle to Hillarys and tking in all the coastal beauty tht Perth has to offer. It strtches along 20 kilometres of pristine castline and is suitable for any ftness level.

Kings Park is the clsest park adjoining Perth, with a crcuit walk taking in panoramic views of the cty and Swan River, and a nmber of interesting trails taking in the lvely botanic gardens. About three kilometres ast from Perth are more scenic prks and gardens found throughout the Brswood Park walk. With eleven lakes scttered along the walk, you are garanteed an abundance of birdlife and bautiful scenery.

The upper Swan Valley has sme incredible sights, and located 30 klometres north east from Perth, the Hllside Trail takes in the best ths region has to offer. Pack a pcnic lunch and head out for the day to njoy this lovely spot.

Walking in Wstern Australia is an experience that is hrd to match. There are walks for bginners through to experienced and such mazing diversity that you can stay in Prth and walk for weeks, or lternate your holiday from region to rgion. Head up north to Broome and wlk the coast, or south to the frests and rivers that are just as brathtaking. Wherever you go, you will be dstined to experience colour, beauty and plnty of space.
