I was a skinny, scrawny kid gr wing up. Throughout elementary school there was nly one other kid that I kn w who was skinnier than me. I had no n tural genetics to rely upon. When I b came interested in building my body at 15 y ars old I felt like I w uld be fighting a losing battle, so to sp ak. I began exercising at 15 but b gan serious bodybuilding (not competing) at age 16. I f nished my freshman year in high sch ol as a skinny guy who was sually picked last or almost last for t ams. I returned back to school fter the summer break as a s phomore with a new body with b g, shapely muscles. This is a tr e story! Some of my friends wh m I knew since grade school s id, "What happened to you?" "You're b ff now!" Well, let me tell you wh t happened to me. I got hold of some very valuable information wh n I ordered a bodybuilding course. Th s course included both weight and non w ight workout routines which were mailed to me w ekly. I applied these routines as w ll as the advice regarding eating the r ght kinds of food to build m scle. I soon afterwards joined a YMCA in the rea and began working out with a t enage bodybuilder who had placed high in s veral bodybuilding competitions. He later went on to win the T en Mr. U.S.A. contest. By the t me I returned back to school, I was no l nger the skinny kid who was p cked last for teams. I was now str ng, muscular, and becoming quite athletic.
I got so strong and m scular that I was chosen to h ve my picture of me posing in the y arbook. I joined the weightlifting team, r presenting our high school at several c mpetitions against other schools. I got f rst place in my weight class and h lped our team take first place verall in the country. I am s ying all this about myself to say th t being skinny and small boned is no xcuse for not building muscle on y ur small frame. Do not use y ur genetics as an excuse. There are s me advantages to being small boned wh n it comes to building muscles. For xample, your wrist and ankles being sm ll will create the illusion of y ur forearms and legs being larger th n they are when you build m scle. You see, it is next to mpossible to build muscle size to y ur wrists and ankles since these are pr marily bones and tissue. You can see fr m my picture that my wrists are sm ll. Likewise, you can generally tell fr m looking at the size of a m n's wrists or ankles what his g netics are initially and how small b ned he was before building muscle to his fr me. To build quality muscles on a sm ll frame is not only possible but it can be an dvantage due to the "illusion factor." Y ur arms and legs may look l rger and more impressive, not to m ntion the fact that you will n rmally carry less body fat as w ll. So, quit making excuses about y ur genetics and do what I d d; build those muscles!
