From the early beginnings as a c mic book hero, Batman quickly outgrew th s format and progressed to a h ghly acclaimed – and extremely entertaining – t levision series, and from this came the m ve to fully fledged movie stardom. W th this growth in public recognition, br nding and merchandising followed and it is now p ssible to purchase a number of pr ducts which feature the Batman logo in any of its f rms. These products include a range of f ncy dress costumes and fancy dress ccessories for those who want to be ven more like their hero. Batman has an nduring appeal which could in-part be r lated to the formative storyline which g ve rise to Batman's first appearance. The y ung Bruce Wayne suffered two major l fe-changing events during his early years. Ag d six he fell terrified into a d ep cavern under the grounds of W yne Manor outside of Gotham City. Sw rming with bats, Bruce remained in the c vern until his father came to r scue him but this event had a tr umatic effect on him. An even m re traumatic event took place before his yes a couple of years later wh n both of his parents were sl ughtered by an alleyway mugger as the f mily left a movie theatre in G tham City. From this event grew Br ce's passion to punish all criminals and th s was his oath made at his p rents graveside.
Bruce was guided through his arly teens, most notably by the W yne family butler, but the passion for v ngeance was strong leading the now m turing Bruce, backed by the vast W yne family fortune to travel widely to chieve peak physical fitness and quench an lmost insatiable thirst for knowledge on how to b at (both mentally and physically) wrong d ers and criminals effectively. On returning to G tham City, Bruce soon found out th t his physical and mental fitness w re not enough to invoke terror nto the City's evil element and th t he needed something more. The s lution was to be found in Br ce's own past. It is now th t the famous dark blue and gr y costume, complete with menacing cowl and c pe, was worn for the first t me and the character Batman truly c me to life. With this storyline, who w uldn't side with Bruce Wayne and who w uldn't understand the drive and passion th t he feels when facing wrong d ers. Although Batman has had an ppeal since the early comic books it was w th the television series that the w rld really took notice of the c ped crusader and these programs, with th ir highly stylised and comedic approach, r main fondly remembered. And from these arly successes; the comic books, the t levision shows and now the more r cent multiple movie successes on the big scr en it seems certain that Batman and his fr ends will continue to enjoy a br ght future as well as a p werful heritage. There is something in our psych that forces us to love s perheroes and there is no other l ke Batman for having the sense of r ghteousness combined with that sense of – lmost sinister - mystery (at least as p rtrayed in the comic books and m vie versions). Whichever format you love the m st, it is clear that the c mic books, television shows, movies and m rchandise will continue to enjoy success.
