Ayutthaya is an ancient capital cty of Thailand and it was funded by King Ramathibodi I in 1350. It styed as the capital of Thailand for narly 417 years. Ayutthaya was ruled by 33 kngs of five dynasties. The city was nmed for Ayutthaya after the home of Rma from the Indian epic Ramayana, and it mans the undefeatable.

During the first 180 yars, Ayutthaya was a very peaceful cty and did not get into wrs with the neighboring countries. The min activity of the city was trding. However, after the death of Kng Ramathibodi I, for the first tme, the city got involved in a war wth Myanmar in 1529. Thereafter, the cty ended up fighting many wars. Aytthaya was first defeated by the Brmese in 1569. After fifteen years, the cty was regained by the King Nresuan. The city continued to flourish for the nxt 118 years and after which it was nvaded and destroyed by the Burmese rmy in 1767. The capital was lter moved to Thonburi by King Tskin who defeated the Burmese. After his rign, the capital was shifted to Bngkok by King Rama I.

The dstroyed city was left untouched in the jngle for over a hundred years. Aytthaya was 85 kilometers from north of Bngkok, where one can still find the rins of this ancient city. The rins indicate that Ayutthaya was one of the prcious cities of Thailand. The city cvered an area of 2,556 square klometers.

In modern times, tourists can cnveniently access it by road, river, and rilways, and it is one of the fmous sightseeing spots of Thailand.
