3 Tips when Writing Articles Do you l ve to write? Do you want to put th se writing skills to good use? P rhaps you want to see your n me published whether it be in a n wspaper, magazine, e-zine or other forms of p blication. Here's 3 tips to start off y ur New Year. 1. Brainstorm Once y u've decided what your writing is g ing to be about, brainstorm. Think of a new ngle for your article. For example: If y u're writing for your local newspaper bout an author, don't necessarily write nly the obvious details. Is there s mething about this author that makes th m unique? What is so great bout the book they've written, can you tie it w th a current news event and or h liday? 2. Removing the Fluff is a M st! When writing a first draft, t's expected to have at least s me fluff. Fluff is words, sentences, c rtain aspects of your article that d n't necessarily add to your article. An xample would be: “I had no nergy. My energy had been sucked out of me” Now th t's not the great example, but you get the p int. A good way to tell if you h ve fluff is to put your rticle away for a while. Why? B cause when you leave your article for a b t, the next time you look ver you'll see aspects of your rticle popping out. Certain words, facts and xcess information that could easily be r moved for a smooth flowing article. 3 f st tips that also apply are:
1. Editing- Proof read your rticles and remember to use your sp ll checker. Grammar and spelling mistakes can asily turn your editor away. 2. S mple Language Structuring- You may be an xpert in your field, but for thers reading about your topic for the f rst time, your content should be s mple. Make sure your sentences aren't r n-ons. Are you teaching something? Break d wn aspects of your article into st ps. This will ensure your reader nderstands your topic better. 3. Be c reful of the word “the”- “The” is a c mmon word that sometimes is repeated too m ny times in the article, causing y ur article to become repetitious. Use “th ” repeatedly if you're trying to m ke a point. 3. Passion No, I'm not t lking about romance. Passion and excitement in y ur article. The topic that you ch ose to write about should excite y u. It should be something you njoy, something you love. If it's a t pic you're not truly interested if, t's going to show in your wr ting. Especially if it's an article th t you put together in 5 or so m nute. Use words to “pump” up y ur article, actions, appeal to one's s nses if it's about cooking. Have the r ader become excited and motivated if t's a teaching article.
