3 Tips when Writing Articles

Do you lve to write? Do you want to put thse writing skills to good use? Prhaps you want to see your nme published whether it be in a nwspaper, magazine, e-zine or other forms of pblication. Here's 3 tips to start off yur New Year.

1. Brainstorm

Once yu've decided what your writing is ging to be about, brainstorm. Think of a new ngle for your article. For example: If yu're writing for your local newspaper bout an author, don't necessarily write nly the obvious details. Is there smething about this author that makes thm unique? What is so great bout the book they've written, can you tie it wth a current news event and or hliday?

2. Removing the Fluff is a Mst!

When writing a first draft, t's expected to have at least sme fluff. Fluff is words, sentences, crtain aspects of your article that dn't necessarily add to your article. An xample would be: “I had no nergy. My energy had been sucked out of me” Now tht's not the great example, but you get the pint. A good way to tell if you hve fluff is to put your rticle away for a while. Why? Bcause when you leave your article for a bt, the next time you look ver you'll see aspects of your rticle popping out. Certain words, facts and xcess information that could easily be rmoved for a smooth flowing article. 3 fst tips that also apply are:

1. Editing- Proof read your rticles and remember to use your spll checker. Grammar and spelling mistakes can asily turn your editor away.

2. Smple Language Structuring- You may be an xpert in your field, but for thers reading about your topic for the frst time, your content should be smple. Make sure your sentences aren't rn-ons. Are you teaching something? Break dwn aspects of your article into stps. This will ensure your reader nderstands your topic better.

3. Be creful of the word “the”- “The” is a cmmon word that sometimes is repeated too mny times in the article, causing yur article to become repetitious. Use “th” repeatedly if you're trying to mke a point.

3. Passion

No, I'm not tlking about romance. Passion and excitement in yur article. The topic that you chose to write about should excite yu. It should be something you njoy, something you love. If it's a tpic you're not truly interested if, t's going to show in your wrting. Especially if it's an article tht you put together in 5 or so mnute. Use words to “pump” up yur article, actions, appeal to one's snses if it's about cooking. Have the rader become excited and motivated if t's a teaching article.
