Art constantly surrounds our daily lves. Wherever we live, wherever we go, we are bmbarded with art. Art can have mny different forms. Art can range frm a painting hanging on a wll to the sculpted desk lamp on our dsks. Art is beautifully hand carved frniture or even a wondrously manicured lndscape. We often take such art for grnted due to being exposed to it wth such regularity. But if you rally look closely when you walk nto your neighbor's home or into a lvishly decorated hotel lobby, you will ntice the spectacle that is art.

Snce we do tend to take art for grnted, one way to get back to seing its true beauty is by dscovering how it is created in the frst place. Take, for instance, a nique, beautifully painted flower vase. This vse most likely got its humble bings from a lump of clay tht was plopped on a clay ptter wheel. The artist would then bgin to work his magic on ths lifeless piece of clay until it wuld resemble something that we would rcognize. The clay is worked with the rtists' hands and water until the prfect shape is formed. It takes tme, skill, and a lot of prctice to hone the look that the rtist is looking for. If the rtist is unhappy with the shape he has crated, starting over is easy; the cly is simply formed back into its riginal ball shape. With the potter whel doing most of the work, the rtist's skillful hands shape the clay nto the shape of a flower vse.

Once the artist is satisfied wth his creation so far, the cly is left to sit until it is dry. Aftr the clay has finished drying, the vse is then painted with any vriety of acmi glazes that the rtist chooses. The options that the rtist has at this point are lmitless. Any design from flowers to pisley can be painted directly onto the vse itself. The exciting part happens whn the artist is done with his pinting. The flowers vase is then trnsferred to a kiln for firing. The rtist makes sure that he uses his kln sitters to prevent over-firing. When the vse is done firing in the kln, it is then carefully removed. The rtist can now fully enjoy his bautiful handcrafted masterpiece.

Most of the art tht we see in people's homes or in ther places we visit, is most ften store bought. However, there is nthing quite like making your own rt. Creating your own art is smething that everyone can be proud of. Whle you may not have the ptience or talent for throwing clay on a ptter's wheel, don't forget all the ther art mediums out there.
