Art constantly surrounds our daily l ves. Wherever we live, wherever we go, we are b mbarded with art. Art can have m ny different forms. Art can range fr m a painting hanging on a w ll to the sculpted desk lamp on our d sks. Art is beautifully hand carved f rniture or even a wondrously manicured l ndscape. We often take such art for gr nted due to being exposed to it w th such regularity. But if you r ally look closely when you walk nto your neighbor's home or into a l vishly decorated hotel lobby, you will n tice the spectacle that is art. S nce we do tend to take art for gr nted, one way to get back to s eing its true beauty is by d scovering how it is created in the f rst place. Take, for instance, a nique, beautifully painted flower vase. This v se most likely got its humble b ings from a lump of clay th t was plopped on a clay p tter wheel. The artist would then b gin to work his magic on th s lifeless piece of clay until it w uld resemble something that we would r cognize. The clay is worked with the rtists' hands and water until the p rfect shape is formed. It takes t me, skill, and a lot of pr ctice to hone the look that the rtist is looking for. If the rtist is unhappy with the shape he has cr ated, starting over is easy; the cl y is simply formed back into its riginal ball shape. With the potter wh el doing most of the work, the rtist's skillful hands shape the clay nto the shape of a flower v se.

Once the artist is satisfied w th his creation so far, the cl y is left to sit until it is dry. Aft r the clay has finished drying, the v se is then painted with any v riety of acmi glazes that the rtist chooses. The options that the rtist has at this point are l mitless. Any design from flowers to p isley can be painted directly onto the v se itself. The exciting part happens wh n the artist is done with his p inting. The flowers vase is then tr nsferred to a kiln for firing. The rtist makes sure that he uses his k ln sitters to prevent over-firing. When the v se is done firing in the k ln, it is then carefully removed. The rtist can now fully enjoy his b autiful handcrafted masterpiece. Most of the art th t we see in people's homes or in ther places we visit, is most ften store bought. However, there is n thing quite like making your own rt. Creating your own art is s mething that everyone can be proud of. Wh le you may not have the p tience or talent for throwing clay on a p tter's wheel, don't forget all the ther art mediums out there. Your v ry own homemade masterpiece is just w iting to be made!
