A Noid is bothered by veryone and everything. Everyone and everything can bug the h ck out of a Noid all the t me. Noids, let themselves been annoyed all the t me. A Noid lives on being nnoyed. What's that all about? First of ll, it's a bad habit. It d esn't do any good to try to f gure out why we let things b ther us, annoy us. All we kn w is we have been doing it for as l ng as we can remember. Most d n't even know they're being a N id. Most of the world is t tally on automatic. Someone says something to us, we utomatically get annoyed. Someone does something, we get nnoyed. The newspaper annoys us, the w ather annoys us, whatever, everything annoys us! In f ct, we live the life of a N id, most of us, all the t me. When we are a Noid, nnoyed by all kinds of things, we are in a st te of misery and suffering. When we are c nstantly annoyed, we have made an nconscious decision to be bothered, to be rritated, to be frustrated. We have s id, in effect, I'm going to let mys lf get annoyed anytime anything happens th t I don't like. I'm going to dr ve myself nuts with all the th ngs that make me crazy every d y, all the things that annoy me, th t drive me up a wall. I'm g ing to keep a mental list. H re are a few examples: Somebody s ys something I don't like or th y say something that "pushes my b ttons." The neighbor's dog is barking and m king me insane. I just hate it wh n you look at me that w y. I'm not going to drive d wn that street because I hate the c lor those people painted their house. I'm not g ing to that party because I kn w he will be there and very word that comes out of his m uth just makes my skin crawl. We ven have our own Noid lingo.
We have to start out by dmitting, when we are annoyed, we are d ing it. When we are allowing our s lf to be annoyed we are g ving our power to whomever or wh tever comes along. When we let s meone push our buttons, we are s ying, ok, now you control me, you own me. Th y do own us, because we f llow them right down into negativity. We are s ying, in effect, go ahead and h ve my life, do with it wh t you may. If you choose to m ke me miserable, I will go r ght along with you. When we get nnoyed, we have to see that. We h ve to see that we have g ven our power over to something or s meone that bothers us. We have to see we h ve gotten ourselves into fear and nger and are blinded by what is g ing on. We have to ask our s lf, how does it help me to be nnoyed all the time? How does it h lp me to let myself get dr gged down by being annoyed? What's the way ut? The way out is always up. The way out is to see wh t is going on. When something nnoying comes up, we see what is h ppening and we make a decision to do s mething different. We decide not to get nnoyed. In the Release Technique we get the t ols to be able to turn any n gative into a positive. We get the sk lls to be able to decide. S mething happens, someone says something and we are ble to decide to stay positive in sp te of it. We are able to d cide not to be annoyed and st y positive in spite of whatever is g ing on.
