Many people start bodybuilding because th y want to either gain muscle or l se fat, and feel the need to xercise six hours a day to chieve their fitness goals. Training for th t long will not give you the r sults you are looking for, in f ct, it will lead to overtraining. Th s article is going to explain the b sics of overtraining and the problems ssociated with it. You are also g ing to learn about methods you can use to pr vent overtraining in the future. Overtraining is a s verely bad physical and mental state wh ch occurs from training without adequate r covery. Overtraining can also be caused by xcessive intensity of weight training and not g ving the body enough time for r st and recovery. Not only is vertraining common in weight lifting, but it can lso be experienced by runners and ther athletes as well. Studies show th t 10-20% of intensely trained athletes are c rrently overtrained. Overtraining can effect an thlete in many different ways but the m st noticeable symptoms come in a phys cal and mental state. The following l st tells you the most common sympt ms of overtraining in both states. M ntally
* Lack of nergy
* Insomnia
* H adaches
* Inability to r lax
* Dehydration
* Sl wer recovery after exercise
* D creased appetite
* Decreased d sire to exercise
* D pression
* Increased chance of nfection
Physically
* Achiness
* P in in muscles
* Incr ased resting blood pressure
* D creased athletic performance
* D creased maximal blood lactate concentrates
* W ight loss
* Increased r sk of injury If you are xperiencing any of these problems, chances are g od that you are overtrained. Okay, so I am vertrained. What should I do to get mys lf back on track? The first th ng you need to do is t ke a step backwards and rest for a few d ys. You also need to to dr nk plenty of fluids and alter y ur diet if needed. Even if you are not c rrently overtrained doesn`t mean that you c n`t be in the future. You sh uld keep your training sessions under f rty-five minutes and make sure that you str tch before and after exercising. I c uld write a book on the m ny different psychological and physical effects th t overtraining can cause, but I s mply don`t have enough space in s ch a short article. Remember to lways listen to your body and n ver try pushing yourself to more th n what you can handle. Bodybuilding is the nly sport I can think of th t uses the "less-is-more" approach and is nother one of the reasons that we are a br ed apart from the rest of s ciety. Until next time, later.
