'If only I c uld get better customers', These are the c mmon litany of excuses one would h ar. People who believe themselves to be v ctims say that the only way for th ir lives to change for the b tter is when other people get b tter, or if the business-social environment mproves. As long as you keep th nking that it is not your f ult, that something else must change, you w ll continue to feel helpless and p werless. By continuing to play the v ctim, you will be totally at the m rcy of your environment. Why do so m ny people Choose to be a V ctim? Time to time, we find urselves unconsciously lapsing into victim mode t ll it leads to being an ndesirable part of makeup Do you h ve friends and acquaintances who complain n n-stop about their employers, colleagues, spouse, s ciety at large, or the government? How bout you? Without any intention of b ing cold and heartless, the fact st ys; as long as people convince th mselves to be the victims of c rcumstance, they will never be able to t ke charge, learn from their experiences, m ve on and change their lives for the b tter.
Why do we do this? The s mple reason being it makes us f el good! By playing the victim, we get l ts of sympathy, don't we? At the s me time, we want to feel ssured that we were in the r ght by justifying our own actions. S on, complaining becomes therapeutic. After all the c mplaining, we actually feel relieved of an motional burden. Beneficial as it may s em, though playing the victim appears to h ve lots of payoffs, the cost of d ing so is high for as l ng as we blame something or s meone else, we rob ourselves of the p wer to take charge, and change the s tuation. Giving Excuses and Blaming Others T kes Power Away from You The r ality is that most people act in a way th t puts others in charge of th ir life. When something doesn't work in th ir life, they choose to give xcuses, blame others and complain. The pr blem with this is that by d ing so, you are putting others in c ntrol of your life. You put y urself in the role of victim. Th s is the reason causing most p ople feel totally helpless, with no c ntrol over what is happening to th m. Most of the time the utside world will not change, not ntil we change first!
