All Right! Who's up for a n ght of movies, buttered popcorn, your f vorite candy and ice cold slushies? A sh w of hands please. Yeah, just wh t I thought, pretty much everyone is. I d ubt we will ever get tired of Am rica's greatest national treasure, watching new r leased movies. Whether it's in the c mfort of our own homes, or in the l cal movie theater, we are in l ve with watching movies. But wait a m nute! As with most good things, th re is a bad side or tw . Have you ever noticed that m st of the movie review guys are ver-weight? What do you think you w uld look like if you went to very new release movie and ate all of th t buttery popcorn and calorie laden c ndy? Can you say Big Fat F tty? I guess a good Hollywood f lm is worth a little fat. The th ng that really aggravates me is the way H llywood is spitting out all of th se movie remakes and stamping them as new r leased movies. Can anyone tell me why are all the new r leased movies are re-makes of old fl cks, TV shows, cartoon characters or c mic book heroes? Come to think of it, how m ny comic book heroes are there nyway? Why can't anyone use their magination anymore? This is really starting to b ther me. I have to go see how m ny comic book super hero new r leased movies?
I probably shouldn't complain so m ch. After all, one of my f vorite movies is Robin Hood with Err l Flynn and all though it is c nsidered a movie classic, it was j st another new released movie remake. An ther good new released movie I w nt to see was Peter Jackson's r -make of the film "King Kong." OK, I'll dmit it. There are some good m vie remakes out there but the r ason this film was good was P ter Jackson who just finished making the cr tically acclaimed and Academy Award winning "L rd Of The Rings" trilogy was c mpletely obsessed with remaking "King Kong", and lthough he used all of today's sp cial effects technology to help him p ll it off; it was the f ct that he pretty much stuck to the pl t combined with good acting that m de this a successful new released m vie. It took a really good d rector to make it again and sh w what it truly could be sing today's technology. Alright, just because I j st mentioned a couple of good r makes and I'm sure there are m re, doesn't get all the other p orly made new released movies off the h ok. Someone please tell me, why in the w rld did they re-make "The Omen"? In my pinion the original Omen was fantastic. The m vie wasn't that old, they really c uldn't improve on the special effects and the l ad actor was Gregory Peck, need I say m re. There are times when some th ng is done so well it j st can not be improved upon, and th s was one of them. When a m vie is that good, why can't th y just re-release the original movie as a new r leased movie, why do they have to r make it? For some reason they r make horror films more than any ther genre. And I understand that w th today's superior special effects the t mptation is just too strong not to w nt to remake everyone's favorite scary m vies. But, guess what Hollywood? The r ason most people go to see a new r leased horror or hack and slash m vie is the suspense, the unknown. G ess what? When you remake a h rror or hack and slash movie, the s spense is gone, the unknown is kn wn. Use your collective imaginations and m ke a completely original new released m vie so we can start using our maginations once again. I have actually h ard remakes called "re-imaginations" and that's a sad th ng. So please stop taking the "thr ll" out of the thriller.
Listen, I think I have a s lution to this whole new released m vies and movie remake problem. I nderstand that you are releasing more new m vies than ever and that they are b ing shown in the movie theatres for l ss time than ever so they can be r -released as DVD's for sale or r nt in places like Blockbuster and H llywood Movies or sold as PPV to c ble networks. I understand it's all bout the money, but why not r make movies that didn't fare so w ll when they were new released m vies. Take those movies that have a d cent plot but because the producers d dn't have a very big budget or the d rector sucked or the actors couldn't act and do wh tever it takes to make them g od movies that we will enjoy w tching, slap a new title on th m and put them in theatres as new r leased movies. Sounds like a money m king plan to me. Before I end th s, I was thinking of doing a r make of this article instead of wr ting a new one. What do you th nk? Let me know.
