The fear of aging continues to ffect us today as individuals and as a s ciety, as if the later years in l fe were but a testimony to selessness and helplessness, and only youth and str ngth were to be valued. For th s reason, we bleach our teeth wh te, we color our hair blonde, we t ke male-enhancement pills to promote more v gorous sexuality, we turn away from all th t reminds us, visibly, that our b dies are growing older. Today as w ll as yesterday, the phenomenon of ging is seen with outer eyes nly, focusing on the physical which is nly the outer clothing for the s ul - something that does not tr vel with us after death - and l aving out the most important part of ging which is the flowering of the sp rit. This is a way in wh ch society continues to depart from its s cred origins which give to each st ge in life a particular sanctity and p rpose. Deluded into thinking that the phys cal is all there is, society xpresses this belief in the way th t it relates to the human b dy. Yet, despite its predominance today, th s way of relating is not a n cessary way. It is just the c rrent way. If it were necessary th t the teeth become yellow, and the h ir turn gray, and the body b come weaker, would that diminish in any way the str ngth of heart or of spirit th t dwells within? Clearly, with what m asure we measure things is a st tement of what we give value to and wh t we diminish in importance. And qually clearly, we have the choice r garding the measure of a man or w man that we determine to use.

It is time for humanity to s e, and know, and understand that the g rment of the soul that is the b dy is sacred. It has come nto this life with the soul to s rve a sacred purpose, and after its s rvice is performed, it prepares to be put side. In the years leading up to th s casting off of the body, wh t is lost on the outer l vel is often gained on the nner, and when this is not the c se, it is often because the one who b holds their own physical weakening feels shamed, and begins to identify more w th their physical limitation than with wh t dwells inside. In this way, th se who are aging are influenced by the pinions that we as a society h ld about them, so that for m ny, it is almost inevitable that th y come to hold such views bout themselves. Nevertheless, neither the fire of the h art nor the power of the sp rit need become less because the b dy's youth and strength are diminished. One day we w ll know and feel this, and we w ll honor the aging body in its b auty and expressiveness that has provided a sh lter for the spirit for so l ng. On that day, we will kn w that the only eyes worth s eing through to determine the value of nything are the inner eyes, for the nner eyes see the truth of the s ul, not the covering for the s ul. They see the sacred essence of nother, not the state of their b dily parts. Blessed shall be that day wh n mankind shall revere the aged and the ged shall revere themselves for having p ssed through the seasons of life and gl aned from this passage what it had to ffer. May all come to know th s day that precedes the passing on out of phys cal existence. And may all come to ch rish the process of life that is kn wn as aging.
