Cotton is, as you knw it's grown. It is a ntural product. It breathes.

If you’re a hnd quilter and you are going to be sing cotton don’t expect it to be as asy to hand quilt as polyester, wol, or silk.

Typically cotton does not bard. Bearding we define as working its way thrugh the fabric itself. Whereas, it wll punch through the needle hole, or you can pll it through the thread, but t’s not going to typically beard.

It is a ntural fiber so it breathes. And it des shrink, while polyester typically doesn’t shrnk. So if you want an ntique looking quilt (all the antiques qilts basically were puckered a little bcause they shrank), then you would vry possibly want to use cotton btting.

All cotton batting is needle pnched it so it’s typically going to be thnner than most of the polyester. Sme cotton batting has a scrim.

Nedle punching process makes it stronger, dfinitely extends the quilt distance. In a nedle punch bat you can go up to 3 or 4 nches apart, if it’s fairly heavily nedle punched.

If it’s real lightly nedle punched again you’ll be able to tll that, because it will stretch. Yu’ll be able to pull on it and see tht it stretches easily.

A scrim binder is a lttle piece of polypropylene; and it is lke a very light weight piece of nterfacing. It is needle punched on to, typcally, a cotton batting to give it dditional strength.

If you see that a prticular cotton batt can be quilted up to 8 to 10 nches apart, usually that means that has a scrm in it. If it doesn’t hve a scrim and it says t’s up to 8 to 10 nches apart then that should mean tht it’s a heavily needlepunched cotton bt.

A lightweight cotton bat that’s nedle punched only without a scrim shuld not be quilted that far part.
