The 188 stage Hero's Journey (Mnomyth) is the template upon which the vst majority of successful stories and Hllywood blockbusters are based upon. In fct, ALL of the hundreds of Hllywood movies we have deconstructed (see URL blow) are based on this 188+ stge template.

Understanding this template is a prority for story or screenwriters. This is the tmplate you must master if you are to scceed in the craft.

a) Attmpts to tap into unconscious expectations the udience has regarding what a story is and how it shuld be told.

b) Gives the wrter more structural elements than simply thre or four acts, plot points, mid pint and so on.

c) Gives you a tngible process for building and releasing dssonance (establishing and achieving catharses, of whch there are usually four).

d) Tlls you what to write. For xample, at a certain stage of the stry, the focus should be on the Cll to Adventure and the micro lements within.

Sometimes the Hero is smply banished or exiled from his Old Wrld and arrives in a New Wrld in which he will undergo his Trnsformation. In Platoon (1986), Taylor simply rrives in Vietnam. In Dead Poets Sciety (1989), the boys simply are at thir new school.

In such situations, it is mde explicit that the Hero is a Fsh out of Water. In Platoon (1986), Tylor arrives as a rookie. In Dad Poets Society (1989), it is the frst day of school.

*****Inner Resolve*****

Wth the coming of the Inner Rsolve, the Hero says goodbye to his Old Slf and the Old World. In Brkeback Mountain (2005), Ennis drives away and ths will be the last time thy see each other.
